I have recently made my own PC for this first time but I don't really know what I'm doing. I've put a burned version of windows 8.1 into the disk drive and set it to boot from disk drive however it's come up saying "reboot and select a proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key". I suspect that this is a problem with the windows 8.1 on the disk or parts of the PC being unable to run alongside windows 8.1 but I'm not sure. Please help.

did you mount it, or just drag and drop the iso onto the drive?

try using Rufus to make a bootable USB stick instead of a DVD

INTEL CORE I5 4670K | NVIDIA GTX 980 | NOCTUA NH-L9i | GIGABYTE GA-Z97X-SLI | KINGSTON 120GB V300

CM STORM QUICKFIRE TK | BENQ XL2420TE | ROCCAT SAVU | FRACTAL DEFINE R4

Use this to make a bootable USB drive with an iso...

You can try getting something to burn the iso image to a DVD... Click and drag doesn't work that simply...

What may have happened is that image while burning became corrupt. I have seen this happen quite a lot. Best thing to do if you got another computer to use or laptop is too extract the image from the CD and use an usb to import the image (ISO) onto it. Then try boot from USB. If that dont work that there is an issue with hardware.
