So my sisters been bugging me about this for a month now..

Shes leaving for uni next year and the family has to get her a laptop. Our budget is around 1000$.In my opinion SSD are essential now adays and she will be keeping pictures ect. on there so that means she will have to have a mass storage drive to.So a ssd and a hdd in one laptop. She is NOT tech savy at all so if you suggest buying a external that will probably way over her head.Around 64gb-124gb ssd would be fine. For battery life it HAS to be 6-7+ hours since she will be taking classes all day.Any size really would work unless its like 30 pounds. She will probably playing EA games on it such as sims sadly so the gpu has to be decent. If its needed we can go over the budget.Any one have any suggestions?

Thanks Luc401

If she's not tech savvy she won't even notice the difference of having an SSD boot drive. Honestly just get a decent laptop and don't even worry about it having two drives. I know its sacrilegious, but I recommend a macbook for college.

SSD's prevent rage from slow loading times IMO.The only way she would get a mac is if there is windows on it.If it really comes down to not having a ssd its ok

I would personally buy what Tomato mentioned, take the SSD out throw it in my own rig and buy the biggest laptop drive you can find and stick it in there. You might want to clone the SSD over though it probably has some recovery software from Samsung on it.

If you are by chance near a Micro Center or know someone near one this is a great deal. I bought one when they were around 600$ and it's great. The GT 540 should suit the Sims just fine.

It's an i7 and has more RAM than the Samsung.

500 GB hdd

24 GB SSD for Caching, This speeds up the entire computer DRAMATICALLY!

i5, 4gb ram, 1366x768 screen, $700 price tag.  Intel HD 4000 graphics.

Not bad, huh.  My only complaint for this laptop would be the 720p screen, but im a fan of full HD.  My current laptop has a 720p screen and honestly, its not that bad.

Corsair Obsidian 800D | Msi GD-80 z68 | Intel Core i72600k (stock speeds at the moment) | Msi Gtx 570 twin frozr III | 8GB Corsair Dominator @1600mHz | Coolermaster evo 212 temporary) | Cooled by Gelid Wings | Intel SRT smart caching | Windows 7 ultimate x64
