I'm a 3D-Graphics student from Norway, I'm getting my bachelors degree sometime next month and i know i want to work with visualization, I've got a good summer job this year and I decided that i will use some of the money to upgrade my CPU/motherboard.

At the moment i have a I5-2500K @ 4.4ghz, 16gb of cheapo 1333mhz ram, Sabertooth P67 motherboard, Noctua NH-D14, Corsair HX850 and a GXT 690.

I'm hoping i'll be able to make a M-ATX build in a Silverstone TJ08-e and i would like to use the ram, cpu fan and the PSU in the new build.

I was thing of buying the 4770K when that is released, depending on the performance. Then i got to thinking a 3930K would cost about 90% more, but then i would get another two cores. It probably won't bring 90% extra performance, but i'm not nesseseraly looking for the biggest bang for the buck. If the i think the increase in preformance is worth it i might get that option as it will save me time when i work. The third option will be the 8350 from AMD, it has 8 cores and 4 GHZ, and it should be really good for rendering and it's the cheapest option.

I'm expecting the 4770K will cost me about 4000 NOK, the 3930K will cost about 6000 NOK and the 8350 will cost me about 3000 NOK.

The problem I'm having is that i can't find any proper benching when it comes to rendering, i haven't had much time researching this (I'm doing my last home exam and I'm writing this in between testrenderings). So if someone that has a wider field of knowledge of CPUs could inform me of the relative performance of the 3 CPUs.

I have only owned Intel CPUs, could someone also tell me what the pros and cons are of having AMD over a Intel CPU when it comes to the motherboards and the I/O.

I'm also going to use it for gaming, but this time around I'm going for best rendering solution over the best gaming solution that ended me on the 2500K.

I think that was all for now, I'm very sorry about my English, it's my second language and i don't have much time to write this.

Edit: I will be overclocking the CPU so the overclocking capability is a factor.

If you are looking for a benchmark on rendering, search the cpu and cinebench after, is a 4D renderimg based bench, it is very good, i don't see the 8350 being as good as a 3770k, not speaking 4770k, it used to be compared to the 3570k, each of these cpus can be overclocked, but you will see a difference fron the 3930k, the only problem is that i don't know any m-itx x79 motherboard, and there are very few m-itx cases that will fit your NH-D14, given all you have requested, i will advise you get a Bitfenix Prodigy, and a m-itx mobo paired with a 4770k, it will fit your cooler, and your PSU, altough i am not sure on the last one.

Codename: HighFlyer, specs:  CPU: i5 2500k cooled by a H70ish(2 rad)   Mobo: MSI MPower Z77   GPUs: Gigabyte GTX 660 OC 1150 MHZ core, 3150 memory both   RAM: Corsair Vengeance 16G @1600mhz   SSD: ADATA Premier Pro sx900 / HDD Seagate Barracuda 1TB/Samsung 1TB   Power supply: Corsair RM650 80+ Gold   Case Corsair Carbide 500R   5.4 ghz achieved on the good old 2500k, may it rest in peace. Current daily OC is 4.8 @1.41 v

Oh sorry, I'm doing all my rendering and modelling in 3d Max at the moment. I have a Gigabyte GTX 690.

@ Morfy: Thanks for the name of that bench! it helped a lot in figuring out the performance. Also I'm going to make a M-ATX build not M-ITX, so i could get a board like the Asus Rampage IV Gene http://www.asus.no/Motherboards/Intel_Socket_2011/RAMPAGE_IV_GENE/

The case I'm going to build in will be the Silverstone TJ-08-e http://www.silverstonetek.com/product.php?pid=303
