Hey guys im looking to upgrade my beloved ath m50

I listing to all kinds of music, dubstep, edm, pop, rock, hip hop and classical

I need something under $300 preferably around 250 but am willing to go higher if the sound is worth it.

The headphones need to have good sound-stage, decent bass and mids and highs. They also need good separation

I would prefer closed back but am very willing to consider open back headphones, currently I am considering the  Philips fidelio X1/28 as they are in innerfidelitys wall of fame and have good base (apparently) for a open back design and the NAD visco hp50's

I also want a headphone with a detachable cable as i may get the V Moda mic cable thing and use it as a gaming headset, as my current ones suck.

I don't mind having to buy a amp if necessary but would prefer not to.

cheers

Doesn't everybody want all these things in a headphone?

Maybe it would help if you can describe what about your M50s you AREN'T happy with right now. Try to think about what is missing from your listening experience. If you don't come up with anything, it's possible that you won't see much benefit from a sub-$300 upgrade. The M50s might not be the best VALUE, but they aren't bad by any means.

Dear Kenna,

If you do not mind changing to wired headset you should defiantly take the Steel Series Siberia Elites into consideration. They are my favourite headset and the sound quality is great. :)

Both of those are relatively bass-light, especially compared to the M50. Might not feel like an upgrade to the OP's ears.

The problem is he wants good mids and highs too.... everything that has all the good stuff bundled together is way outta his budget.

I own a pair of Siberia V2's their pretty good but not comparable with $100+ price tag headphones. The Siberia Elites seem to have a better audio range than the V2's but I heard they have muddier bass.

Like watching Anime? Consider joining the unofficial LTT Anime Club Heaven Society~ ^.^

The elites are definitely designed for gaming. The music experience isn't going to be as great as something else, but it's still totally passable.

Bought a powermac G5, expect a mod log sometime in 2015

Corsair is overrated, and Anime is ruined by the people who watch it

A headphones that can't do music probably sounds like ass for gaming as well. Because, audio *jazz hands*

But thats not how audio works, headphones know when they are receiving gaming/music/studio sounds and produce those sounds properly as according to there usage scenarios

That's not how it works. It puts emphasis on things "Important" for gaming.

It doesn't have bad audio quality, it just has bad music characteristics

I have really enjoyed mine. VS the ATH M50 the sound is definitely better. The bass does get muddy, BUT it is much lower response so you'll notice when you listen to electronic music when you compare to the ATH M50.

If that's what you're looking for, it's not a bad headset. I would recommend actual headphones and a separate mic though...

And what would those characteristics "important for gaming" be?

Wide sound stage, emphasis on footsteps and directional stuff.

IDK, i'm not an audiophile.

I just don't get it, man.

My dad would disown me for saying this...
