Does anyone know how thick an SSD can be inside a Lenovo ThinkPad e540? Does it have to be a slim SSD or is a normal SSD allowed? I think normal should work since it supports 1TB HDD 's ?

It says it supports up to 9.5mm thick HDDs, so I would assume any SSD will work since I'm not aware of SSDs thicker than 7.5mm.

And it seems that it only has one storage bay available so the one used for HDDs should be the same used for the SSD.

There's also an M.2 slot available, although depending on your configuration it may be used for the wireless card.

I just looked and can only find 7.5 and 7mm I swear my old corsair is thicker tho... Anyways, other question here. There's an M. 2 slot in their but they only want to sell a 16GB cache SSD. Is this because it doesn't support big non-cache ssd's or just because? Could I put a 128GB in that M. 2? Use it as boot drive and leave the 1TB in for storage?

There shouldn't be anything that restricts the size of the M.2 SSD.

Unless there's something weird in the bios that prevents an M.2 drive from being the primary drive it should be fine, but it wouldn't be the first time a company restricted the use of X hardware for X purpose.

So if I don't choose m. 2 cache the wireless card will occupy the slot?

Not sure, I just saw that there may be a WAN card in the m.2 slot, and there may also be a PCI express based wireless networking card.

The word might is used a lot, so I'd prefer not to give any definitive answers.
