Hey guys, so every now and then about 1 - 2 times a week i will get a BSOD, but when it happens, instead of windows 8.1 just giving the frowny face and then restarting, the screen will go to the frowny face except the screen will be a repeating green and blue checkerboard and the text/frowny face on screen is distorted too. I've tried re-intalling the drivers multiple times but to no avail. And awhile back when it happened, i downloaded a kernel analyzer and it said that the BSOD had something to do with my GPU. So do you guys think i should contact ASUS and issue an RMA?

Oh and I've tested my RAM,PSU, and HDD and it isnt one of those. Thanks:)

Try underclocking your graphics card and see if the problem persists. If that fixes the problem then RMA the card. Also run memtest to make sure there are no errors with your memory, I had a bad stick of ram and it worked fine for the most part but would occasionally blue screen (that's why i ran memtest).

Oh and i forgot to ask, When do you get the bluescreen? During youtube videos? During games? Or is it random?

Well I ran Memtest the other week and everything was fine, I just ran furmark and prime 95 with no problems. I haven't tried to underclock it though which I will definitely do tomorrow. Oh and the bsod sometimes happens when say I'm playing a game and I alt + tab out and it will also happen on occasion immediately when I click on a youtube video, but not in every video, just occasionally. Just about an hour ago I removed my gpu and reseated it and replaced the PCI-e cable and I haven't had a problem yet. But I will keep you updated:)

Green and blue checkerboard frowny face with distorted text... sounds like my worst nightmare.  Could you read the error code at all?

No the text is illegible, I can only read the percentage that windows is fixing the problem

Oh, and lately I've been having wierd resolution problems like when I turn on or wake my computer the screen re-arranged my icons as if the desktop quickly loaded in 720p and then switched to 1080p which moves all the icons to the top right.

So i under-clocked the card which stopped the blue screens so far but my wanky resolution problem keeps happening. Should i RMA it?

Yes i would personally RMA the card. If it's not producing blue screens when underclocked it means your card is unstable at stock clocks (all cards should work properly at stock speed) which makes me think you might just have a faulty card. I don't know everything about this type of thing but if it was me i would RMA the card (if i didn't have a different PC to test it on) and see if that fixes things.

Hi,

open Event Viewer (http://windows.micro...r#1TC=windows-7) and look for errors in "Windows Logs -> Application". Then post me the error code and data you'll find. Could you provide screenshots?

So i found where the error codes are except there are quite a few, How would i go about uploading screenshots?

Links are working and I read the errors. But for now I need more information.

Download BluescreenView (http://www.nirsoft.n...creen_view.html) and run it.

Maximize the window and post a screenshot of it.

1. What did you exactly changed before your PC started freezing?

2. Is your explorer crashing?

3. When does it exactly happen? Does it happen ingame, too?

4. Do you see weird colors/artifacts in your BIOS?

5. Did you tried to restore your system?

6. Where did you download your graphics driver?

Here is the link to the BlueScreenViewer   http://imgur.com/TmS3AiD,eVf60H5#0

And to answer your questions...

1. I never changed anything, i built my computer in January and has been happening the whole time  and i have been having these problems but nobody has helped me find a way to fix it, though it will stop happening for the span of a few weeks but then starts up again.

2. I'm not sure what you mean by this but if it is what i think it is then no, i have not experienced my file explorer crashing.

3. It never has happened in a game before, the only time it would happen in when my gpu needs to start or stop using itself.(i.e when i close a game or open a game and sometimes when i start Youtube videos.)

4. No my bios looks fine, at one point i thought if i flashed and updated my bios it might fix the problem...it didn't. So the bios is fine.

5. I have nor tried to restore my system...which i'm not 100% sure what that is. But i did replace my HDD in March with a new one and with a clean install of windows but that didn't make a lick of difference.

6. I downloaded my GPU driver of of AMD's website. I have tried un-installing and re-installing my drivers many times with no success....Which is why i think that it is probable a problem with either my GPU or Mobo.

Link doesn't work.

There are different factors causing your problem. There are also different ways to solve your problem.

But for now answer my questions:

1. Did you try to re install your OS?

2. Did you choose your GPU model on AMD's website or did you use auto-detect to find the correct driver?

3. Does your graphics card have warranty?

Sorry about the link...its not that important though. To answer your questions...

1. I have re-installed my OS one when getting my new HDD and again later with my current HDD with no change...and this was happening with my old HDD too so i ruled out the HDD.

2. I've probably un-installed my drivers and re-installed them about 20 times now and i have done both methods but it always ends up the same.

3. My Gpu does have a warranty with ASUS, I've had it for less than a year so warranty should not be a problem.

Your GPU is causing these problems, I would try RMA. The ATI 7790 is popular for weird issues :D

Do you have some kind of software installed which is in the context menu (when you right-click) or overlaying your desktop with some extra function?

No there is just Catalyst Control Center but that's it.

Just go through the RMA process and it should be fixed. I give you a 95% chance! RMA shouldn't be a problem.
