hey, just wondering if its normal for my GPU temps to be around 96-101 degrees C when gaming, its a MSI GTX 670 PE inside of an Areocool Dead silence case, i have 2 120mm exhaust fans on the top and one at the rear and a 200mm in the front pulling in air.

when it hits 102 it usually throttles itself to snail speeds.

i should probably mention that its an RMA replacement so should be brand new and tbh i cant remember what temps my old one was hitting before. im wondering if it could maybe be bad thermal paste? (or none at all?)

any help is greatly appreciated

thanks.

Holy shit you should stop gaming before you fry the card. 102 is waaaaay too hot. Re-RMA that thing, I smell a heatsink that barely touches the GPU, broken fans, no thermal paste, etc etc.

If all you have to do is remount the cooler why waste weeks of time and money to RMA it?

Because manually removing it sometimes voids warranty.

Quick update: I took the heatsink off to find a ridiculous amount of thermal paste, I remove some of the excess but left a little too much (on purpose just in case) my load temp on kombuster running at its highest settings is around 86 with the fan at 70% so I'm happy with the result for now but I'm still going to cha he out the paste for something better. Thanks for the help :)

For gpus i usally use gelid extreme, make sure to spread it evenly (this tim seems to be a bit tougher to spread with the pressure of the cooler only) before applying the cooler.

Clean the surface beforehand with isopropyl :D
