So recently I decided to finally build a gaming computer, although my whole life I have been I mac user so windows is very new to me (obviously I was going to put windows on my computer). Anyway, with my new computer I want to put windows 8 on it, and after checking on Microsoft's website I found out that for windows 8.1 has a student discount for 8.1 pro upgrade and windows 8 pro upgrade. What I don't quite understand is which one I should buy if I want to do a clean install on a new hard drive. I guess basically what i'm asking if which one I should buy, and then how I should go about installing it via USB. Also I am still waiting for one of the parts to my computer to come but it should be here by tomorrow I just wanted to get this figured out before I started. Sorry if I sound like an idiot it's just that I'm new to this so thanks in advance!

You want the one that is not an upgrade due to the fact that your not upgrading a current windows OS.

For putting windows on to a USB stick you are going to need an app to do it. The basics of it is that you write the windows ISO Image to the USB.

So you will want to search for a ISO to usb for mac

Unless Mac has an inbuilt utility to do it. I can't remember.

If you want to add the ISO to usb via windows you can just search Google for the windows ISO to usb

Windows have a free program that will do it.
