was just wondering before i make a purchase if 3 pin fan male connector will work with a 4 pin female connector?

Yes im pretty sure they work both ways

Yes, it will work but there will be no PWM (the fan will spin at the fixed amount of RPM, depending on voltage)

Any unknown button should be pressed even number of times.
