So I decided to play around with my OC a bit more just to see what I could squeeze outta my shitty 4670k. Now I eventually gave up and settled for my 4.1ghz overclock @ 1.26 volts, unable to lower the voltage I just gave up and was about to leave until I realized that I had never tried adaptive voltage set to auto. So I went ahead n did that and booted successfully. Once I opened CPUz I found that the voltage was 1.21 volts and the cpu was running at 4.1ghz. Now this confused me so I opened up EVERY other voltage/cpu monitoring program that I had and they all gave me the same result. So I assumed that it was dropping the voltage and decided to do a real world stress test. I started rendering in sony vegas at 4k and stared at CPUz. But nothing the voltage stayed at 1.21 volts and 4.1ghz. Now I don't know if this is an error but my temps speak for themselves. They barely even break 58 degrees Celsius. Now can someone help me identify whether this is a glitch or if I got lucky.

System is in sig but here it is anyway:

- 4670k @ 4.1 ghz with 1.21 volts APPARENTELY

- ASUS Z87m-Plus

- Thermaltake water 3.0 pro

- ASUS gtx 760

- Cougar RS750

- 16GB Skill Memory

I don't know what you're complaining about, that's actually quite good and I wouldn't mind it if it happened to me.

Well, you probably already know this, in overclocking there's always that lottery thing, you could get a good one or a bad one that just underperforms everytime

This isn't really unusual - happened to me but with GPUs. The "auto" feature in overclocking, whether it be voltage or frequency, will try to find the most stable number out there. It just so happens that your's was lower, it could be due to a number of other things but I think we can assume that you 'won' the lottery game.

This could mean you could push it even further...

You can bark like a dog, but that won't make you a dog.

You can act like someone you're not, but that won't change who you are.

Finished Crysis without a discrete GPU,15 FPS average, and a lot of heart

How I plan my builds -

Spoiler

For me I start with the "There's no way I'm not gonna spend $1,000 on a system."

Followed by the "Wow I need to buy the OS for a $100!?"

Then "Let's start with the 'best budget GPU' and 'best budget CPU' that actually fits what I think is my budget."

Realizing my budget is a lot less, I work my way to "I think these new games will run on a cheap ass CPU."

Then end with "The new parts launching next year is probably gonna be better and faster for the same price so I'll just buy next year."

hahaha I spent like a full day trying to get windows to boot with the cpu on adaptive voltage. I don't know what you're complaining about xD

I was in the same position as you, could get it to work when I set the values, then one day it had the values set to auto. I said heck and whola it booted.

Adaptive for me doesn't even boot for auto when I do it in bios. it does in AI suite 3 though. but I find that program rather undependable.

Oh me too, my AI suite 3 experience has been beyond horrible. The only reason I still have it is because I have no other way of controlling my fans since SpeedFan is way too hard to configure.

Worst program ever that i've used. It doesn't even save my settings after a reboot :|

Exactly, I recently started trying out Intel Extreme Tuning Utility and I must say I am very impressed, although it is not as refined as the Ai Suite 3 it has SOOOOOO potential in regards to OCing.
