Currently I have:

Intel Core i7-3930K 3.2GHzC

CORSAIR Hydro Series H50 Quiet Edition

Intel BOXDX79SR Motherboard

32 GB of RAM (G.SKILL Sniper Gaming Series F3-1600C9Q-32GSR)

2x PNY GTX 780-OC (VCGGTX7803XPB-OC)

Samsung SSD 840 EVO 250GB

Seagate 3TB HDD (ST33000651AS)

3x ASUS 27" Monitors (VN279)

Running Windows 8

I've noticed in the specs for my processor that it can only handle PCI-E 2.0 where a newer version of the same processor (i7-4930K) can do PCI-E 3.0. Intel's website says that this processor is not supported on the motherboard I have.

Would it make any difference to get the newer processor?

Do you know if it would work on this motherboard, or would I need to spend another $200 on top of the $580 processor?

The main thing I do on the computer right now is play Eve Online with 5 clients running at full 1080 in borderless window mode and ISBoxer to make it span to 1/2 of the 2 side screens where I keep CPU and GPU information programs running and a small browser window so I can watch video while playing Eve.

Attached is a screenshot of how my desktop looks when I'm fully loaded :)

Any opinions?

Thanks

It's NOT your cpu....

Your cpu was released long after PCIe 3.0.....

Edit: perhaps you don't have pcie 3.0 disabled in you bios?

CPU: i7-4770k (LM modded) - MB: GA-Z87X-UD3H - RAM: HyperX, 16GB 1866MHz - GPU: Palit GTX 980Ti Super - Storage: 1TB HDD + 500GB/120GB SSD (850 Evo/840) - Monitor: Predator XB271HU - PSU: 700W BeQuiet 80+ Gold

It's only 1 gen behind, and PCI-E 2.0 hardly bottlenecks any GPU (none AFAIK). There is no reason to upgrade the already beast CPU you have.

CPU: Intel i7 8700K | CPU Cooler: be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 3 | RAM: Kingston HyperX 2x8GB | Motherboard: Asus ROG Z370-E | GPU: MSI GTX 970 | HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB & 2TB | SSD: Samsung 840 EVO 250GB & 970 EVO M.2 500GB | Case: Phanteks Enthoo Evolv X | PSU: Silverstone Platinum Strider 1100W | Monitor: AOC i2367Fh | Headphones: ATH-M40X | Mic: Antlion ModMic 4 | Keyboard: Corsair K70 RGB w/ MX Browns | Mouse: Logitech G502 HERO

Macami, I wish it was just a bios issue, but on Intel's ARK website where they list the specifications of their processors, it shows the PCI Express Revision for my processor is 2.0. It's in the link below under "Expansion Options"
