It's my first time building a computer and I'm struggling to pick a GPU.. I had my eyes set on the MSI GeForce GTX 760 2GB TF but I'm having second thoughts now.

My cpu will be an intel i5-4690k and mobo will be an Asus Maximus Hero VII. I would like to get a good Nvidia GPU somewhere between $150CAD to $270CAD(price of gtx 760). The only games I'd probably be playing are Leauge of Legends and CS. I watch a lot of korean dramas and youtube haha. I don't mind an overkill GPU as long as I'm getting the bang for buck for my budget!

Help me pick out the best bang for buck gpu, thanks! :)

I would go for the amd r9 280, but If you really want an nvidia GPU then see if you can find a gtx 770 for cheap.

Hey,

Pick a cheaper motherboard. You're just paying for the design. With the 80$ saved, you can buy a GTX 770.

Otherwise, the GTX 760 is a good card and given the games you play, it will be more than enough.

An R9 280(x) will be faster (20%) but louder and warmer.

Edit : like the previous poster said, if you can wait a month, wait. GTX 860 could be quite good for its price.

I'm not purchasing anything right away. I am going to be snipe all my parts during black friday and christmas sales hopefully. I just planning my build now instead of later.

I'm pretty set on mobo. I like the Asus ROGs haha. The 860 will probably be pretty expensive once it comes out and the 760/770 will be cheaper. No doubt the 860 will be good but then again, my budget :/

Well, I am sorry but you're making a bad choice thightening your GPU budget because of an expensive mobo that is pure marketing.

if youre going 760 then get the gigabyte windforce 3x one its the best OC non reference card and it has great cooling

you could go for the MSI gaming series as an alternative, theyre not as expensive and look way better imo

It has been proven that buying a premium high-end mobo doesn't effect performance. That mobo is for some dammnn good OCing and stuff. It has it's advantages, ofcourse.

I'd rather save uf some money on the mobo and buy a better gpu.

Altho, that's my personal opinion. Why did you choose a high-end mobo like that?

I've personally always liked Asus. I browsed around and read most people do think Asus boards are physically built better, more reliable and what not then again those are just opinions.

I don't really need a crazy GPU. I'm only an occasional gamer and I only have my notebook right now (Asus k55a), I'm satisfied with the quality I get from it so basically any gpu will most likely do better haha.

I totally understand what you mean though. Reliable cpu and mobo are first in my books then my gpu. :)

Thanks for clearing that up.

You're an occasional gamer now - but in the future, who knows :D

Go with the hero mobo then. Later, when you maybe wanna upgrade, you're gonna have a mobo that's great quality, will last long and support future hardware.

Enough about the mobo! This is suppose to be about the gpu!! Haha any suggestions?

Well, GTX 760 is enough for your needs. Asus and MSI ones are very quiet and stay cool.

If you want more performance for the same price but a bit more noise and heat (very acceptable, though), you can look for a R9 280 or R9 280x.

By the time you purchase your rig (a month or more), prices may have changed and a GTX 770 could be in your price range. GTX 860 may also be in your price range but we can't tell you more because it is not only speculation.
