Do steering wheels need calibrating?

I just got this today and tried using it on forza 5 on Xbox one and it is an utter pain in the ass trying to drive with it.

Have you tried playing with the settings in the menu?

 

I don't use a wheel for console gaming, but on PC I have to configure it most of the time. Most games have a default profile that works fine, but some are just complete crap and require you to do a bunch of tweaking. On PC there are often softwares that you can use to manage your profiles and your settings for each game, but on console I suppose that it's "from case to case", so basically each game will have its calibration menu.

Games have settings menu for setting things as you like them. Deadzones, acceleration for pedals, rotation range etc.
