Z87-C Raid?

Hi all,

 

Noticed something on the specification page of my motherboard (Z87-C) it states....see picture

Does that mean I could RAID two 500GB SSDs in Raid 0 for moar performance and storage and still have a spare 1tb seagate drive?

 

Help appreciated!

 

Yes looks it supports 

 

Raid 0 - 2 drives striped for better performance

Raid 1 - 2 drives mirrored for redundancy

Raid 5 - 3 drives, 1 is used for parity, no performance boost, more storage than raid 1

Raid 10 - 4 drives,  2 drives striped, and then mirrored to 2 more drives, so you get redundancy of 2 drives in raid 1 AND raid 0 performance but at the cost of twice as many drives

Would that be done through the bios as I am not particularly sure? I downloaded the RAID drivers but it just installed intel rapid storage or whatever it is called!

Thats fine, I will be doing a fresh install most likely. Want to run two 500gb ssds as a boot drive for moar powaaar!

No problem, my advice is not to keep anything important on there, and always keep a  backup too :)

 

Dont forget in raid 0, if anything happens to one drive, both are lost so just treat them from now on as a single drive!

 

There is quite a big performance difference though so 100% worth it
