4790K or FX-8320?

Go to solution Solved by Jodomcfrodo,

4790k because a 8320 will bottleneck the dual 290's anyway

I have a partlist which I'll start buying next week.  If I get the 8320, I can CF 290, but if I go with the 4790K, I can only get 1 290 in order to stay in budget.

Any suggestions?

What do you intend to use it for? if just gaming and such then go with a i5 4690K, otherwise the 4790K.

For gaming crossfire r9 290s would be the best option, but the i7 is faster in every respect and it still gives you the option to crossfire in the future when you have the money. I'd go for the second option, but it's up to you. Also, crossfire r9 290s give their best at 4k, you don't really need so much power for lower resolutions (unless you want 120hz).

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

4690K and fit 290 crossfire in. What is your budget for your build?

About $1600 USD

Oh so you recommend a 4960x? AMD CPU's suck in general. If he isn't playing at 1440p then dual 290's are waste. He also said 4790k and not 4690k. In some games HT matters.

No i recommend the i7-4790K.

an i5-4690K will bottleneck a 290 xfire aswell that was what i was saying. :)

He does video editing and 3D work aswell so an i7 is where its at.

So i recommend a 4790K + a single 290 for now, and eventualy add a second one later on.

I know,  i think you did not understand my quote earlier.

Your vote was for the 4790K instead of the 8320 because the bottleneck for 290 Xfire.

I said the i5 will bottleneck a 290 xfire aswell.

Thats why i recommend the i7-4790K aswell

nevermind :)

The i7-4790K is the overall better CPU, so if you're willing to sacrifice GPU power for the sake of the CPU, you'll be better off getting the 4790K over the 8320.. However, if you really need a ton of GPU power and don't particularly care about CPU strength, getting dual 290s is the way to go.

Personally, I'd probably go with the 4790K and only one 290 for now, because GPU upgrades are extremely easy to do in the future.. Slap a second card in there and you're all set, whilst upgrading the CPU would require a whole new motherboard to go along with it.

i7 not perfectly stable at 4.4.. #firstworldproblems

I'll just go with the 4790K and get the 2nd 290 later.  Thanks everyone.

Never buy AMD processors

Why not? For something like a mid range laptop AMDs APUs are by far the best choice.

Don't buy by brand, it creates bad habits.

After my experiences with the FX-8120 I will never buy AMD again. Can't wait to get rid of this godawful CPU and get an actual CPU from Intel

Bulldozer was not AMDs most successful architecture, I will agree with that. However that should not hold you back from considering an AMD machine.

Why would I ever consider an AMD machine again? I could just save up for an Intel machine

AMD is not bad guys.

It just depends on what you do with your system. FX8350 still plays all games verywell. okay the unlocked haswell cpu´s are a littlebit better for pure gaming, But still the FX8350 can still play all games verywell.

For topic starter the i7-4790K is just a better choice. because he does video editing and 3D modeling aswell.

people need to realise that some people just do more then just gaming.

An i5 will not be his best choice.

I got an FX8350 for 1.5 years now, and it plays all my games very well. Never been bottlenecked by the cpu.

But the reason why i choose the FX over the i5-3570K that time, is because i do more then just gaming.
