Upgrading from gt 430

Hey All, so I am currently running an HP Pavilion P7 series desktop PC that I bought from Staples about 4 years ago. I have added an old gt 430 a friend gave me since then. I am going to be running either a gtx 770 or an r9 290 along side an i7-4790k. So obiously I am going to soil myself when I first run any game / try to render something. Can you tell me just how much soiling myself I will be doing? Compare the two choices and tell me how much I will be gaining!!!

are you upgrading just the CPU and GPU?

if so you're going to need a new motherboard and perhaps PSU

I am building a whole new system, I didn't bother with the other specs of it, the 780 is to expensive so a card under that price. I am just asking about how much better the 770 or the 290 will perform!

R9 290 Will generally take a dump on the 770 but what brand/cooler are you looking at for the 290?
