My hd7850 Direct CU was idleing at 45 degrees celcius on a 22 degree celcius day. It was on power saving mode.

Is this normal?

They usually idle around 30c-35c, so there might be an issue

out of curiosity, are you running multiple monitors?

I've seen threads on other forums where their GPU wouldn't idle properly with multiple monitors.

try unplugging one and then checking temps after 10 minutes

OK. I'm going to breakfast now, but I'll check later

2 monitors here,my 770 idles at 43C which perfectly normal for me since my ambient might be over 30C.

It's a fact that running more than one monitors even on idle the gpu temp is gonna go up to 3-5C but i don't think 45C is normal with your ambient.

Here's an explanation regarding the 7950, but I would expect the 7850 would be the same

45 seems to be too high for idle... my EVGA 780Ti ACX idled around 32 Celsius with about 25 ambient temp. But I don´t have too much expirience with an 7850...

Check your load temps, idle temps don't mean much. So you shouldn't worry about them (unless they're something crazy obviously).
