Am i being bottlenecked?

I have an r9 270, pentium g3258(clocked at 4.6ghz), and 1x8gb 1600mhz ram. I saw saints row 4 gameplay and the guy had a 270 and an i5 running at max settings with a minimum of 50 fps. I tried running saints row 3 at the same settings and i was getting a minimum of 30 fps. Is it my processor that is bottlenecking me or is it because im not running dual channel ram?

No bottleneck. Dual channel doesnt really matter that much. The processor only has two cores, SR4 must be able to use 4 cores.

Ehem.. if he has a dual core and the game uses 4 cores, the bottleneck is the CPU. Otherwise he would be getting more FPS....

you can't compare SR 4 with SR 3 one can be optimized better than the other. try to get the same results on the same game that you play, not a different one.

Monitor GPU load while playing...if anything less than 95% to 99% constantly then the CPU is bottlenecking...yes the pentium bottleneck in many modern games, it's only a dual core it's normal.

Ya this "buy a pentium for gaming its as good as a 4690k" Is complete bullcrap, dont expect to run many games at good frames.

some of them will, sure...but most modern games will see some stuttering and some performance drops at times that's for sure.

Open Windows Task Manager.  (search it in start menu OR press CTRL-ALT-DELETE and open it from security screen)

Now that your the matrix god of the digital univers ein your PC (not quite)

Go to performance Tab. And look at the graph if one of your cpu cores hit 100% while playing BF4, thats a wall bottlenck (caus eI happen to call it that way B) )

If all cores hit 100%, its a full bottleneck. (then you can tell us and yourself if there's a cpu bottleneck) ( its actually more complicated then that but its ok)

Go to processes tab.

There you will find SR3.exe along with all the other crap running ony our computer.

See how much % of your cpu SR3 uses. If its 70% and your cpu is at 90% this means everything else in your computer uses 20%. so if you want more fps. You can clean some of the other stuff running on your computer, like the microsoft spyware along with other crap my prebuilt PC OS had.

If you terminate something you shouldn't you can always restart it or restart your computer as it doesnt delete files.

If you use teamspeak, using a channel without voice encryption will lower cpu usage from 2-3% to 0-1%

If you use skype, then you should consider to move away because skype is stone age and TS is electrical age.

the video you watched... did the guy over clock the gpu/video ram and/or Cpu? If not, the guy was overriding driver settings in the catalyst control center, or SR4 is a core-hungry game.

I'm torn between the two because I've played SR4 on an i5 2500 and 7950 (1150/1500), and I saw fps dip below 50 at max settings occasionally.
