hi i have not built a computer for a while now, well years in-fact although i have kept up with the technology, i just need a little help on finalising these critical components, i have a gigabyte z97 gaming 7 motherboard, and i was wondering if the best possible cpu for it would be a i7 4.0 ghz devils canyon?? or will that even work with the board, i have purchased a radeon 290x gpu, and 3 samsung ssd drives also, i will overclock the shit out of it further down the line. once i have water coolers :). yes so any help on the chip set would be a great help guys!

If you will be limited to gaming get an I5-4690k. Current games can't utilize hyper-threading so it's a waste of money. Also if that 290x is reference get your money back if you can IMMEDIATELY and take a Sapphire Tri-x R9 290 OC instead. Reference R9 290(x) run stupidly hot (90-95).

RIG: I7-4790k @ 4.5GHz | MSI Z97S SLI Plus | 12GB Geil Dragon RAM 1333MHz | Gigabyte G1 Gaming GTX 970 (1550MHz core/7800MHz memory) @ +18mV(Maxed out at 1650/7800 so far) | Corsair RM750 | Samsung 840 EVO 120GB, 1TB Seagate Barracuda | Fractal Design Arc Midi R2 (Closed) | Sound Blaster Z                                                                                                                        Getting: Noctua NH-D15 | Possible 250GB Samsung 850 Evo                                                                                        Need a console killer that actually shits on every console? Here you go (No MIR/Promo)

This is why you should not get an FX CPU for ANY scenario other than rendering on a budget http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/286142-fx-8350-r9-290-psu-requirements/?p=3892901 http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/266481-an-issue-with-people-bashing-the-fx-cpus/?p=3620861

yes just gaming, its only £220 for a i7, and i guess its investing in the future?

why would you say change the gpu? just cus of high temps?

thanks for the help btw :)

Go with an i5. You can always drop an i7 in, if and when games start to use hyperthreading. Plus they should be a lot cheaper by that time.

You want a gpu with an aftermarket cooler on it. The reference amd cards run very hot/loud.

Where are you buying from ?

still ill get the i7 as im ahead of the game. ive got the cash as its what i was budgeting for. thanks for the help tho, erm ive got my parts from dabs.com, and bits from overclockers.com,

noise isnt a issue for me as im hiding the pc behind a built in false wall, so i guess im best to install as many fans to the case as possible

I find Gigabyte/Asus boards to be the best. The Gigabyte Z97 gaming 7 will work fine with the i7 4790K cpu.

How will you gain access to the pc if it is behind a false wall ?

You may not need additional case fans so much as good ventilation in the room.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.
