I just built my first PC and at first I was having trouble with my monitor so I didn't really use it for much. Now that I just fixed the monitor and started using it I noticed that sometimes it restarts almost randomly. I say almost randomly because it turns off every time when I'm working on Revit and I use the 3D views but it also happened once when I was installing some drivers (and it wasn't the usual driver restart). Does anybody know what it might be?

Specs: gigabyte GA-Z97X-UD5H-BK (black edition), Geforce GTX 770, Intel core i7 4790k, 750 watt power supply, and windows 8.1.

I would try reinstalling the graphics drivers first. If that doesn't solve it then it could be more complicated of a problem to diagnose if it's not throwing any errors.

It can't be overheating because I monitored the temps while I was doing the thing and they didn't change much (from 29 degrees C to like 34) so I think it might be more of a software problem or maybe even a motherboard problem but not the temp. (plus it was only using like 40% of the CPU)

I'd go and check to make sure everything is connected tightly. A loose power connector can cause restarts. To check if it's software I'd suggest starting up some hardware testing software (Memtest86, etc) and letting it run. If that doesn't cause a restart then it's software and I'd just do a clean install of whatever OS you are using.

  • 2 weeks later...

Post the error code on this forum.

We can help.

I still cant figure out the error code or how to upload the images, but I ran prime95 and as soon as I click ok for the torture test (small FFT) it turns off. Can it be my CPU or something that's causing the problem?
