Quick Question all -- is now a good time to upgrade to say an Intel G3258 with Z97 or should I wait until broadwell? I keep reading that I'm on the cusp of new processors, motherboards and video cards (GeForce 800 Series).

Although my PC is 4 years old, it still serves me well. It's an Intel i5-760 with a GeForce 670 dropped in last year. I've just heard crazy things about the *AWESOME* Intel G3258!

Should I hold back a couple of months until the upcoming stuff is launched?

Recently got the ITCH again and Thanks, guys!

G3258 is anything but worth it unless you do some serious OC'ing. I would wait for broadwell then go to an I5. Also the I5-760 is better than the G3258 when it comes to all-round performance.

This is why you should not get an FX CPU for ANY scenario other than rendering on a budget http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/286142-fx-8350-r9-290-psu-requirements/?p=3892901 http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/266481-an-issue-with-people-bashing-the-fx-cpus/?p=3620861

If everything is holding up fine than I don't see why you would need to go and purchase new hardware. I suggest you wait till Broadwell and keep an eye on the performance and temp, gains and decreases *forgot what word that makes what I just said make sense* respectively and then decide if it's worth the plunge.

It's totally up to you mate. If you wanna wait, do so, if you don't, go for it. My only advice would be to go with an i5 CPU because it'd be a better upgrade than the Intel Pentium G3258. It may be a great processor but at the end of the day it's still a dual core CPU and has no turbo boost despite it's OCing ability. ;)

ON A 7 MONTH BREAK FROM THESE LTT FORUMS. WILL BE BACK ON NOVEMBER 5th.

Appreciate the advice. Thanks, Guys!

I'll wait it out. The main thing that's missing on my system is USB 3.0 which I don't really use. Otherwise it's fine.

What I had was a Mini-ITX case (SilverStone SG06) that was overheating badly. I've swapped it with a Define R4 after watching the Tech Tips videos.

I'll spend the next few months making minor tweaks with Fans and trying out Liquid Cooling since it appears to be much easier now!
