processor stuff

Go to solution Solved by Manny Calavera,

its up to you how much you are willing to spend for whole system and extra performance

4690k should be minimum for gaming machine that have gpu that is more expensive than ~250$ ( lets say r9 280 since everything higher that you buy is better directed for i5 than say 8320) and when you can afford it over any other AMD or intel offerings.

4790k is considered to be step up when you are buying top end gpus. i7 will also last longer and in some insanely cpu intensive games ( crysis 3 ) its almost a necessity while in others ( BF4 ) is an improvement

lets get this clear, when you buy i7 you dont do it because max framerates, but because minimum one when lots is going on on the screen. stutter, frame drop, frame latency -> noticable

i7 4930k is a 6 core with 12 threads, its used usually for builds with 2+ top end graphics cards, especially with higher resolutions and people who dont mind spending more.

if you know how to overclock: Intel i5 4690k

if you dont know how to overclock : Intel i5 4690

if you only play MMOs: Intel i3 4370

If you only play Crysis3: Intel i7 4790(k, if overclocking)
