Is it worth changing out the thermal paste of your GPU?

RainbowPee

If you use a good thermal paste like IC Diamond and put it on will you get better temperatures that justify the cost?

Generally yes, just today I switched my motherboard and the stock heatsink still had the stock paste on it. So I cleaned it off and put some Arctic Silver paste on it. CPU is about 3 degrees C cooler than before. Worth it in my opinion!

Just noticed you said GPU, oops. But I would think it would apply to GPU's as well.

Depends how old the GPU is. If it's new than its not really worth changing the thermal paste. It might decrease the temp by 2 degrees Celsius but not really worth the trouble. As long as the GPU is under 80 C you should be fine

CPU: i5 25000 3.3 GHz             Motherboard: Asus P8Z77-V-LK          Ram: Corsair Vengeance 8 GB           Display: Samsung SD24 24" 1080p

GPU: EVGA GTX 660 SC 2 GB     Sound: Razer Kraken pro                            PSU: Rosewill 630 watt                    Storage 1: 128 GB Adata XPG SX900 SSD

Case: Rosewill Challenger       CPU Cooler: Corsair h80i                    Mouse: Corsair M65                                   Storage 2: Seagate 2 TB HDD

I think he's talking about his GPU not the CPU

Yeah, sorry. Just noticed that and edited my post.

I would advise against ICD7 or any diamond based thermal paste on the die. The diamond particles can damage your die killing your GPU. I say get noctua's paste or use MX4. Both of those are great pastes.
