I know for sure that sooner or later space on my PS4 is going to run out. I'm curious about which HDD to consider. I want 1TB+. I saw this Velociraptor with 10000rpm but I've no clue how good those numbers are, it was hella expensive though. Any suggestions? I prefer it to be faster than the original HDD, as loading friends, msgs etc while in a game can take quite some time.

Thanks

The higher the RPM the faster the platter spins when powered on so in theory the faster it reads/writes.

I think the PS4 one is a 500GB 5400RPM so if I was you, I'd get a 7200RPM because they are fairly cheap and most common. Also I believe the PS4 needs a 2.5" form factor.

Okay. Is an SSHD out of the question though? I Heard someone say the benefits will wear off eventually and become just like an HDD. Again, no clue.

Not used a SSHD so I can't really say, but I doubt it that will happen. It might be worth it but they can be expensive also.

Be warned 10,000RPM+ drives generate much more heat, generally in PCs if you don't cool them properly, you'll have big overheating problems - I'd say stick with 7200RPM or SSHD or SSD if you can afford it.

The most common result of insufficient wattage is a paperweight that looks like a PC

I got the 1.5TB 5400  RPM drive off amazon, cant remember the brand but it should be easy to find (HGST I think). It works great and should keep a few years till hopefully multi terabyte SSD's become mainstream solutions.

I probably wont need tons of space as I game on PC first, and the PS4 is mainly for exclusives and PS Plus offerings. Been a PS+ member for a couple years and have just a half a 1TB drive full on my PS3. I also think games aren't going to get much bigger anytime soon, actually for the short term I think they will get smaller as compression gets more efficient and overall platform maturity. I do think 1TB drives should have been the launch standard though, 500 is quite stingy IMO.
