Need help on choosing a GPU

Go to solution Solved by Petecool,

Hello good day to you all,

I'm in the process of building a computer

from the ground up for the first time.

Have a limited budget so i need to make ever bit of $ count.

Wondering if the community could help me out on choosing a

GPU that's right for me.

I've bought myself so far:

Intel Core i5 4670k

MSI Z97 G45 gaming motherboard

Corsair CX600M PSU

NZXT H440 B/R

Thinking about getting either:

G. Skill Ripjaws X 8 GB or Kingston HyperX Fury 8GB

No CPU cooler yet, but deciding between a Cooler Master 212 Evo or a Corsair H100i

And well....

That brings me to graphics.

I wish to know which GPU suits my needs best.

I'm building it primarily for gaming, but I also want to get into programming and game design,

so I know I'll be using programs like blender, DAZ studio, and others i may find along the way.

I am currently trying to decide if I should buy an MSI GTX 760 4GB OC, or a 770 2GB

but i don't know which would be better, a lower end card with more memory, or a higher end card with less memory.

But don't have enough income to go over $320 at the moment.

So if you would be so kind to help me out I'd be ETERNALLY GRATEFULL.

PS: I would like to have enough power to play Star Citizen and HAWKEN though.  :D

Get the 280x or stretch for the 290 its a great card and a fair bit faster than the 280x and 770, while overclocking like a beast. But make sure you get a good non-reference 290 or 280x with a decent cooler, like the tri-x or vapor from sapphire.

If you only want nvidia then get the gtx 770.

More ram depends on the resolution you are playing on, 2gb on 1080p is ok and just enough.

280,280x the 3gb of ram is much better, also your not far off a R9 290 (less than 50 bucks away) So i would stretch for that, the 4gb of ram will be super useful and so will the better chraphics rendering.

For CPU cooler don't go H100i, costs more, has a higher failure and performs worse than the Noctua NH-D15, Hyper 212 evo is a good low end CPU cooler for mild overclocks but doesn't really compete with the H100i. For the GPU I would say R9 280 for the cheap BUT NOT XFX!!!! For the expensive go with the R9 290 but again, NOT XFX!!!
