as the title says i am looking for a $500 gaming as an alternative to the next gen consoles. I would like to play bf4 and dayz(standalone when it gets released) and get  60fps ,any suggestions for what to buy would be great.

PS: i dont need to much storage so an ssd would be great

I don't think you'll be able to get 60fps in battlefield and an SSD with that budget. But you can try, and my suggestion is go AMD (cpu wise).

Me: Yeah I just really can't get my H220 working again, I've tried everything that was suggested in the forum.

Brian (Swiftech Support): Hmm, have you tried slapping it?

Here you go: http://gyazo.com/c4a99d8a534d4a3bb132adafe9ad901c

I was hoping to get a motherboard with sata 3 6gb/s ports in it for future ssd upgrades but it was hard to fit in the budget especially after fitting a 7850 in.

how much would a $100 boost in the budget help the performance

With $600, I'd suggest my $600 "College Student Build": http://gyazo.com/d28c0ac454ac1889f482e07843b8c2c8

It's more well rounded with a better processor and a motherboard with Sata 3 6gb/s ports for future ssd upgrades. It should net about an average of 50fps and dipping to 36fps at its lowest and 196fps at highest on ultra at 1080p. Lowering the settings should give you better framerates. Also, don't forget to overclock for a free performance boost.

That unfortunately won't run bf3 or bf4 at 60fps with high settings. I think going with a 4300 and a 7870 is going to get him the best gaming performance for what he is trying to spend.

A 4300 costs just as much as or more than the 3220 but the 3220 is still better. The 7870 would obviously do better than the 7850.

To match the prices, the ssd would have to be removed for the 7870 as well as a cx500. Taking out the ssd would give more frames, but the overall smoothness and snappiness of the system would go down a lot.

50fps average and staying above 40fps fine. Lower the settings to high and it should be fine.

a fx4300 is about 20$ cheaper. Also you don't need a 500w, cx430 is more than enough. An SSD in games wouldn't change the "smoothness" or snappiness" in games it will just make them load faster and that is even if you save it to the SSD so I agree with you somewhat. The key thing is that the fx4300 system is highly upgradeable where as the i3 3220 is the last 1155 socket intel processor, ofcourse he could upgrade to a i5 later down the road but that motherboard that you recommended pretty much throws overclocking out the window where as a 970 board still has some overclocking potential.

Since when was the fx4300 cheaper than the 3220? http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Core-i3-3220-vs-AMD-FX-4300

A motherboard for the am3+ with sata 3 6gb/s ports and usb 3.0 would cost more than one of the same features for the 1155 socket.

The ssd is not important to gaming specifically but instead the overall snappiness and smoother loading up and responsiveness of applications in general. The load times of games is not that important.

In this budget, it's a bit impractical to get a fx4300.

As for the psu, I just wasn't too sure. I've never tried the 7870 with a cx430 before. The 7870 requires 2 6 pin pcie power connectors. The cx430 only has one of them.

Well for the wack website you linked me I can't really say why they think the 3220 is cheaper but go to an actual website and you will see that the fx4300 is 115$ where as the 3220 is 129$. With that being said I don't even know how to respond to the motherboard thing because am3+ are cheaper than 1155 boards lol. We both agree that a SSD is a no with this pricepoint so I won't go into that further. The cx430 only has one 6pin pcie but the 7870 comes with a molex to 6 pin pcie so no worries there.

Find me an am3+ motherboard with usb 3.0 and sata 3 6gb/s that's $50. It's important to FUTURE ssd upgrades.

I didn't know it came with an adapter. Does this apply to all 7870's?

There you go :)

But yea I'm pretty sure it is a standard thing that they have to put in all boxes like the manual and vga to dvi lol

Edit* I take back the molex to 6 pin in every box statement. I guess I'm just so spoiled from buying MSI products all the time (which he should be buying a MSI 7870 anyways :P) haha

Great find. I couldn't find that motherboard using the filters for some reason. I still think the 3220 would do better than the 4300 though (without overclocking of course.)

Gotta love Msi.
