high beeping noise

Go to solution Solved by VortexS,

No problem man :D But tell me if it really was the mobo, I'm interested :D

It was the PSU, really weird. I switched it out for a Be Quiet! Powerzone 750W and it's completely silent!

Hi,

I recently bought a new PC and assembled it myself, but I have this weird sound coming from it. When I move my mouse around it makes a high pitch beeping sound. When I scroll on webpages i can hear a with my scrollwheel synchronised rattle from it as well.

I have my energy settings on balanced, and when I put it on performance the beep is louder, when I put it on energy saving it gets quieter. Also I can hear coil whine when gaming but I don't know if that's related.

Does anyone know what this is and if it can be solved, my specs are below. I have Windows 8.1 Pro installed. Edit: it is coming from inside the case, and doesn't go away if i mute sound.

Do you hear that sound constantly while doing a stress test? That might be coilwhine.

Try it without the GPU.

How do I connect my screen to my PC without a GPU?

It is when I'm on desktop with nothing opened, or while browsing, almost always.

Do you have a spare psu lying around? If so, try with that. Also try using your pc without gpu, you can connect your display to the mobo i/o

First I thought it was a PSU problem so I sent it back and received a new one (same model), but it still makes this noise. I will try without GPU in a minute.

I tried without the GPU, and without it it still makes the sounds. I really hope someone can give me a solution.

Do you also hear that noise when you are in the bios?

Also, try using a different electricity plug, maybe even from a different room. don't use one of these multiple plugs.

The noise is also hearable in the BIOS when moving cursor, I even think it's louder. Switching plugs doesn't help.

Damn, troubleshoting that from far is kind of hard.

Now to the obvious questions: Have you disconnected all speaker? Can you locate with your ear where the noise is comming from?

I have unplugged everything but the mouse, muted everything and I can still hear it. And I'm not completely sure (really hard to hear the direction) but it might be coming from my CPU.

From the cpu you say? My guess would be that the vrms around the cpu socket are bugging you. If you can, try a different mobo, if not return it :/

I will contact the store I bought it from, but replacing the mobo isn't something I want to do if it's not sure that it's the cause of the sound. By the way, how do you remove your CPU from your mobo without damaging it?

Touch some grounded metal. Remove the heatsink, you can look up online how to for your specific heatsink. Then press down the retention arm and move it to the side, gently take out your cpu and lie it on a anti static surface. Grab your Cpu-socket cap (that came preinstalled with your mobo) and close down the retention arm again. u done! :D

Alright update time ;) As it seems now it is the PSU that is making the noise, I googled a bit and found more people having this problem with a Corsair PSU. I sent an email to the store I got it from but I don't think this gets covered by warranty. I'll let you know if it's solved (I sure hope it's the PSU. ;)
