Thoughts on this build

Go to solution Solved by Sektor,

Ok man thanks alot you've really helped me :)

One last thing would the Gigabyte GA-H81M-H Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard be ok with it?

So this build http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/2KNZ99

Thanks

It is the correct socket type, so it will work. Although i would personally spend at least £80 on an ATX motherboard, but that is me.

Try to squeeze a 8320 into your budget, also a better storage solution, like a hybrid drive or even a small SSD and add a drive later.

EDIT: @Shd0w2 you ninja...

I'm on my HTC One m8 going to the nederlands for fun right now, only like 30mins away, and I'm sooo bored waiting

Diamond 5 in League :)

Is there anything I can change that will be a big performance boost for little £ extra or is there anything im overspending on compare to the rest of the build.

Thanks

looks pretty good, i would get a piledriver AMD cpu (63XX or 83XX)

The m/board is pretty old and slow interfaces (Sata2 (3 gigs / sec) and not Sata3 ( 6 gigs / sec)

I wouldn't get this m/board as the trasnfer rates will be slow making new games not run as fast.

you really need Sata3, USB3 Pci-e3.0 and go for a hybrid drive (SSHD)

you can also look into the new kavari APU with an A88 m/board and run that dedicated R280X with it would be amazing. you can get it in m-atx as well.

got to love Asus components

Personally i say change the GPU to an R9 270x. The r9 280 requires 2x 8pin power connectors. I have the same PSU, and it only has 2x 6pin PCIe power connectors.

I would say go for an i3 build, using the same PSU + case, but change the GPU to an R9 270x. As it only needs 2x 6pin PCIe power connectors. (that is unless you can stretch your wallet a bit more)

An FX-8320 is not gonna be worth it with a low end micro atx board mate, i had one of those Thuban 1055t's at one point, with a micro atx board, but i couldn't OC it due to the crappy power phase on it. You are best off either getting an i3 build, or saving up your pennies and wait untill you get ~£800 to throw down on a new rig.

Check that out, you can even add an aftermarket cpu cooler at a later date and OC that processor a bit.

Thanks for the suggestion but there seems to be quite a big difference in FPS between 270X and 280X on games

How about like this http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/YmmJgs

The mb I put down has Sata 3 like someone previously suggested.

Thanks

I have an R9 270x, and the only games i cannot run maxed out is BF4, and Watch Dogs (Watch Dogs being a shitty port).

Here are some games i run maxed out with the R9 270x -
Metro 2033

Metro Last Light
Assassin's Creed: Black Flag (and all previous titles)

Crysis 2  (don't own Crysis 3, but i guess on high)
FarCry 3
Deus Ex Human Revolution
The Witcher 2 Assassin Of Kings
Skyrim /w 4k textures + shadows & ENB
Dragon Age II /2 high res texture pack

Ok :) I may go for that not sure but how about the motherboard I mentioned would that get the best out of the CPU and GPU (280X) as you mentioned the one I used before didnt. How about the one I posted above.

Meh, even the FX-8320 isn't that great for gaming, and i personally don't like going for a low-end motherboards, due to the power phase. I wouldn't touch anything with less than an 8 +2 power phase for an 8core cpu.

Well it wont bottlekneck the 280X so it seems ok as for the motherboard how would I find out the power phase as I cant see it in the specs.

That Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3 has an 8 +2 power phase which is fine.

May i ask what kind of programs/games you looking to run on this rig? And the resolution?

I want it to be capable of running upcoming games such as Far Cry 4 and GTA V for PC at smooth frame rates (as close to 60fps as possible)

And ok so if I was to spend £600 altogether and add a AMD processor with the APU would you recommend that or not? Sorry by the way if im asking a lot of questions this is my first build and I want to get the best possible from it. Im pretty sure I want to stick with the 280X seeing what it can do at that price.

Thanks

To be honest, you'll be best off with an i5 processor if you wanna play those games at 60fps smoothly.

And no, stay away from APU's. They are not what you should go for, if you want performance.

Oh ok I thought you said earlier to use one might not of been you though. How about this then? http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/2KNZ99 Will I really notice the difference of it over the AMD one? And I know cores aren't everything but I heard 8 cores will become important true and obviously the i5 is quad core.

Thanks

It will be like night and day. Intel's architecture is a LOT better than AMD's. Not a lot of games would benefit from all 8cores on that Piledriver chip.
