I upgraded to Windows 8.1 yesterday and did a clean install of it.  Since then my internet connection every now and then just stops.  At the bottom right of the screen it still shows that there is a connection and under Network and Sharing centre everything looks fine but no webpages will load and no programs will connect to the internet.  I have to disable the ethernet connection and enable it to regain internet access.

I've got the latest drivers, tried uninstalling and reinstalling, just using the older ones from the Asus Sabertooth Z77 motherboard support page but nothing seems to have worked.  This has only started happening since I went from Windows 7 Home Premium to Windows 8.1 Professional, both 64-bit.

Any help would be great, the network adapter is an Intel 82579V Gigabit Network Connection.

Done, I'll update the thread if I still encounter the problem, thanks for your help.

@Alibaladin Unfortunately the problem still persists.  I maintained internet connection for just over 3 hours and then it cut out.  Are there any ways I can diagnose the problem?

I've changed my Preferred DNS server to 8.8.8.8 and the alternate to 8.8.4.4 and flushed my DNS cache.

I'll change the DNS back if I encounter the problem again.  What do you mean by my setup?  My rig is in my signature and I'm running an ethernet cable from my PC to router.

I just noticed this through a quick search.

Sometimes, the Intel 82579V Gigabit Ethernet PHY Network Connection on my motherboard is erroneously reported as Intel 82579LM Gigabit Ethernet Controller Network Connection in Windows 8, resulting loss of network connection. How do I resolve this issue?
