Just got a cheapo PC.

A family friend just gave away their 5 year old PC with Intel Core 2 Duo 2.33Ghz 2GB Ram (4gb max I believe.) Just wondering about some cool stuff I can do with it, what I was planning is buying a 1tb HDD and just using it as a home media center (storing music, movies, etc.) Anything else interesting to do with just an extra 'throwaway' PC? I was thinking about messing around with linux a bit..

install FreeNas on it

While it appears that's a good cause, I want to do something a little more enjoyable for me.

 

install FreeNas on it

Since I'm going to be the only one using it, does it make sense to do that? Couldn't I just store them all on the HDD and run it through my TV? Or maybe there is an added benefit I'm missing.
