Hey so ive got an old cpu from a friend (amd athlon x2 3800) and I have an extra computer case and an amd 6570 gpu. I want to build a system using the parts just for fun but im fairly new to pc building and am unsure about compatibility, would a new psu work with and old motherboard from around 2005? If so then what wattage should I get? Also would the athlon work with the 6570? thanks in advance

Chances are that the PSU will work just fine with the motherboard. I have a computer from 2007 that modern PSU's would work fine in. As far as the GPU, it's more to do with motherboard compatibility than CPU compatibility. The CPU and GPU combo should work fine as long as you have at least a gen 2 PCI-E 16x bus.

Edit: For wattage, get a GOOD PSU that is 300 Watts or more. don't cheap out here, but don't spend too much. the corsair CX430

I believe the old boards use a 20pin motherboard cable instead of a 24pin

wiki quote

24-pin ATX power connector; pins 11, 12, 23 and 24 are forming a separate and detachable 4-pin connector, making it also usable as a 20-pin ATX connector

Your build says your planning on using integrated nvidia graphics, is there somehow a gpu built into the mobo your getting?

if you look on eBay there are old AM2 motherboards with integrated graphics for cheaper than $50, i tested with an HP mobo and GeForce 7500LE
