Sudden connectivity lag? Please help

Hello, I've had an issue where I have had a huge amount of latency happen to my computer out of nowhere. The problem has surfaced about two to three weeks ago and I have taken multiple measures to try and fix it.

 

I have : 

- Restarted my router

- Updated my router

- Updated my PC

- Checked for viruses via. Norton and Malwarebytes

- Factory reset my PC

-(Of course) restarted my PC

-Connect through Ethernet

 

The problem is that I am fully unable to play multiplayer games whatsoever. Every game I do play says I get ~30-60 ping, but it will play as if I had 700 ping.

The problem has also affected my downloading speed, going from 4.0 Mbps on steam downloads down to 2.0 Mbps and even 500 Kbps.

My PC is the only one affected within the household, and my laptop ten feet away from my desktop has absolutely no issues with connectivity and downloading

Speedtest.net says I have 9 ping connecting to Boston, Massachusetts but 9 ping is clearly different to 700.

 

 

Any idea on how to fix the issue? I was thinking about getting a PCI-E wireless(or Ethernet) card to resolve it, but I'd like to have a definite answer before I spend my money on something that may or may not work.

 

I am usually a multiplayer PC gamer and It's annoying having barely anything to play or do on my steam library since singleplayer gets old quickly when you've already beat most of the games.

 

I also usually play on US East servers, but it doesn't really matter where I go now, considering the massive amount of lag I get anywhere.

 

Also, the same day the problem happened, Ethernet connectivity would not work, troubleshooting says it doesn't have a valid IP address.

 

 

 

Any feedback would be very helpful, Everywhere I search I cannot get a solution.

Had a similar issue with a friend's PC once. All of a sudden, it couldn't connect to the internet through the ethernet. Unfortunately, I was never able to figure it out. But I had a spare ethernet card lying around and it did the trick! So I believe it will work for you as well. Although that would be only bypassing the problem and not really fixing it. Because my friend's PC worked perfectly fine, when he brought it back home. If I had to guess, I'd definitely point at the router. But as I said, I was never able to figure it out.

Well, I tried connecting with three different ethernet cords and none of them worked. I have also tried connecting my desktop to my laptop through ethernet, and have wireless connectivity run through my laptop, which usually also worked for better connection. but it doesn't now. I have also tried using a USB Ethernet thing I bought at radioshack but that didn't work either. the only thing I can think to blame would be my motherboard. Should I buy a new one? I'd have to wait for awhile for Cyber Monday because I'm also planning on getting an Intel I7-3770K rather than my current AMD FX-6120 processor, since Cyber monday is around my birthday. I don't know, I might get an ethernet card for the chance it works.

By any chance do you know what ethernet card it was?

Funny, even googling the serial number returns no results. But I can tell you it's a really old piece of crap card and any ethernet card should work. There is no need to get exactly the same one. As long as it can replace your built-in ethernet, you're fine.

The computer I'm using is a modified HP ENVY h8-1414 Desktop.

 

I changed its power supply and replaced its graphics card to an Asus GTX 760

 

I'm still getting the same issue as before, and it doesn't seem like it wants to work. Should I just get a new motherboard and get it over with? even if would the HP software that came with the computer interfere with the new motherboard?

I'm desperate at this point and don't want to lag all the way until december until I can buy a new one.
