I'm planning to build a computer which is used for gaming, some light video and photo editing and some school work.

Since I'm a newbie in computer building, I don't know which route to go - AMD or Intel?

My budget is $700-$800(just the pc, without keyboard,os,mouse, monitor etc). Could you guys help me to choose the best parts for my budget?

Haha guys don't hate on new members/posters :) . First of all welcome to the Linus Tech Tips Forum.

Jobbe03 is right, this topic should be in the plannings forum :) .

And it would be nice to know what you need for your 700-800$ budget, do you need all the peripherals as well or do you have a monitor, keyboard, mouse, etc.?

EDIT: Could any of the mods please move this, for everybody's sake :)?

EDIT 2: Thanks at the staff.

Intel i7 7820X (delidded) @ 4.9GHz - MSI X299 M7 ACK + EKWB Fullcover Block - G.Skill Trident Z 32GB @ 3466MHz - nVidia Titan Xp + EKWB Fullcover Block @ 2.1GHz - Samsung 960Pro 2x - WDD Blue 2TB - Seasonic 750W Platinum - modded Corsair 600C - Hardtubed Custom Watercooling

Ok that's something to work with :). I will give all the prices in USD as currency and refer to NewEgg.

Just recently built a system like this (was H87 but Z97 wasn't released at that point :) ).

Mainboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130782

CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819117302&cm_re=intel_core_i5_4460-_-19-117-302-_-Product

CPU cooler (optional): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103099

RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231445

PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139048

SSD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820147247

Storage HDD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822236339

GPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814202090

Case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811146075

Well this would be a setup you could go with. The components are all up to date and fast. You would have a nice Evo 840 SSD (huge performance improvement to HDDs) and upgradable later down the road. Fast RAM only CL of 7. The GPU performs also really well.

Okay this price ends up at 844 USD BUT this is pricing without rebating! You'll get some more discounts and the CPU cooler is optional. If you take this off you hit pretty much evenly those 800 USD.

The reason I recommend this is, the H97 chipset is fresh and i5 has a lot of raw power. It isn't really made for overclocking, but you din't mention this. This will be a 1080p kick ass built!

If you like AMD better and want to go this route you could go with an AM3+ mainboard and the AMD FX8350 CPU

Mainboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813132026 (chipset FX990 would be better but it would be slightly out of your budget)

CPU:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819113284

I'd recommend for this a Noctua Cooler as the stock cooler is pretty bad. There is OC potential in this CPU but I personally like the i5 and i7 series from Intel better.

So this is just a quick recommendation from me, hope it helps you a bit :).
