I am a new member who has never built a computer from components before. I am not afraid of doing zo, but have been revolving around laptops for some time.

I would like to build a pc for trading, which in my mind (though some may have other opinions and I welcome them) is a bit akin to a gaming pc, but not as intensive in its specs.

I wanted to see what others have done with their builds, geting the good and bad, and if you consulted something like cpubenchmark in assessing components .

As with everything, budgets are a fact of life and must be kept in perspective.

I appreciate everyone's input on this!

Ok, so I caught a video on Youtube on the requirements for building a trading pc in which the presenter stated that the CPU Passmark Mark (from CPUbenchmark.net) should be at least 7500.  I do not know whether this is correct, but with a lack of other information, this is only starting point that I have to go on.

I am anticipating needing at least 8 Gb of Ram, running one, or maybe two (max) smaller ssd HD(s), and want to eventually look at running up to four screens, though maybe not all at once.  In other words, I anticipate that I would most likely start off with running two screens, and then want the capacity to add an additional two down the road, but may not come out of the gate with running four screens. So, would be looking at the initial build having one video card installed for running two monitors, with the capicity to add another (of the same?) card for an additional 2 monitors.

This computer must perform when it is on, be stable, and just execute cleanly with no hangups.  It will not be moved, so I am not sure if this makes a difference with the case/cooling ideas or not.

I expect to keep the programs running on this computer to a minimum; I will not be doing any other work on this computer accept trading with it.

I am not tied to any particular brand of hardware (AMD vs Intel) when in comes to processor or motherboard or video card; I am only looking for max performance for minimum cost.  And please bear in mind that the graphics that must be generated as part of the charting programs are no where near the detail nor depth of those for gaming; they are merely two dimensional, with multiple colors.  They just need to be quick.

So, as you can see, not being into the details of computer hardware and builds, this is why I am need of assistance.

Questions/concerns?

A trading PC is one that will only be used for trading, stocks, options, futures, and foreign currencies on an intra-day .  This is type of activity is based on live feed from the markets, and must have as minimal delay is its responsiveness to input and outputs (in the way of actuated trades based on incoming data).

As far as a budget goes, I would really like to keep it to a minimum.  I recognize that the price of hardware components is ever decreasing.  With that in mind, I am hoping to build a fairly high performance unit for under $750.  The question is, how much under this number is feasible?

Is this possible?
