Borderlands The Pre-Sequel! - Disappointment

Hey guys, so I saw this video from the escapist here: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/previews/9558-Borderlands-The-Pre-Sequel-Athena-the-Gladiator-Preview?utm_source=latest&utm_medium=index_carousel&utm_campaign=all

As you can see, the HUD is literally exactly the same as well as the inventory. I don't know too much about the game but I hate when devs are that lazy they can't even try to make the game not look exactly the same.

Well, it's not really a full sequel and more like filler kind of like how Dynasty and Samurai Warriors have Xtreme Legends and Empires or why Battlefield: Hardline exists. Assuming a Borderlands 3 and that it might take places years after BL2, then I'd bet there would be a different HUD and inventory layout.

Hell, Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3 - I'm not sure about 1 since I never played it - had similar HUDs. The main difference was the color and MGS3 having a stamina bar.

It's not too difficult to make changes to something like the HUD though it just seems really lazy in my mind and makes me think of GoW: Judgement *shudders*

Why would they change a system that works? I don't know what they would add to/take away from the BL2 HUD that wouldn't make it less useful overall. BL2 HUD was a significant improvement over the first, but other than style changes there's nothing they could really do to change the HUD for the presequel and that's a waste of time when there are more important things to develop for the relatively small team they have working on it. On top of that, they've added a bunch of new features including new element types, new characters with new skills, oxygen mechanics and lower gravity. Complaining about the HUD is the most petty thing I can think of when faced with those changes.

Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask did it and nobody said a thing back then. Then again, MM was supposed to be an expansion and people are saying Hardline is a glorified expansion for Battlefield 4. Sometimes though, when a HUD is too good, developers might not bother and will just change it to fit the theme of the game - MGS2's HUD resembled MGS1 as a foreshadowing and the white HUD in MGS3 contrasted with the jungle environment. Since The Pre-Sequel takes place a bit before BL2, I can understand why they're keeping with the BL2 style. It'd be really weird if The Pre-Sequel had a massive HUD update that made it look even more streamlined and more futuristic when the game takes place before BL2. Now if BL3 literally copied and pasted BL2's HUD and BL3 takes place, say, 1000 years after BL2, then it'd be stupid for tech to not evolve at all.

Just think of it as like it's a huge DLC, kinda like Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon.

Any unknown button should be pressed even number of times.

I guess it makes sense that it's the same since it's not a completely new game moving forward it's content that fills in before Borderlands 2. I would expect some kind of new changes and probably to the UI as well in BL3 as it's all new content with a new story.

I played a LOT of Borderlands 2, somewhere around 300-400 hours with friends and really enjoyed it. I'm not sure if the prequel will hold as much interest (at least for my friends) but I hope that it's just as entertaining and I can get at least 100 hours worth of enjoyment out of the game.

As long as it's not full price, and turns out to be a similar to price to Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon, I'll buy it. The BL2 inventory and HUD is pretty effective.
