GPU worrying me.

Go to solution Solved by lx_srs,

Okay, thanks!  Still a little worried, but appreciate the info!

Yeah, the 290 is designed to run up to 95C, AMD says this is normal.  You shouldn't have any issues.

Problem:
Seemingly high GPU temps and fan performance.
OS:
Win 7/Win 8 x64.
Specs:

Gigabyte GA-Z97X-Gaming 7 (F4 bios) mobo

i7-4790K (Phanteks PH-TC14PE)

16GB Kingston Ripjaws 1600MHz ram
Powercolor PCS+ R9 290 GPU

Corsair CX750M PSU

Also using 3 monitors:
Asus VG248QE, Yamakasi 1440p monitor, and an AOC 1080p monitor. (turning off any individual monitor doesn't seem to affect it.)

So I recently upgraded my mobo and processor to the Gigabyte Z97X Gaming 7 motherboard and i7-4790K processor, my GPU is an Powercolor PCS+ R9 290(Non-X), which I've had since about march.

Before this my PSU and mobo had died, so I took it as a good opportunity to upgrade my parts, and before this upgrade my GPU temps were idling in the mid-30's/low-40's (i5-3570 on GA-Z77X-D3H), now idling after start-up in windows, my idle temps are in the 50's (celcius), I've had the card for a few months, and my computer was down for about two weeks before I upgraded.  Any time I game and it maxes my GPU, the card gets LOUD, very loud, the card never gets above 70c when gaming (fans at 80%), but it still seems outrageous, is there something wrong with my card and this is normal, or is it just me?  Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

50°C idling sounds rather high but getting 70°C while gaming is good

It's fine.  My card runs at 47C idle and can get up to 95C under load, and it gets about as loud as a F1 car revving up.

Okay, also just curious, but what do you think could be causing the temperature difference here between the new hardware and old?

Your CPU can probably push your GPU a little better than your old i5.

Maybe your card hates you. ;)

I wouldn't worry about it. Your idle temps are high, but your gaming temps are perfectly fine.

But the idle temps though? Seems odd.

Eh, It's a pretty beefy card, with tons of thermal output.  Doesn't seem that odd.  If it still bothers you you can always install more case fans.
