Since this morning my fps in Battlefield 4 has been dropping from around 60-80 to 30 every five minutes and staying there for about 30 seconds, according to precision x my gpu usage goes from 80% to around 30% when it happens but the clock speed stays the same, I have only had this problem when using shadowplay in the past and have tried doing a fresh driver install but no use it still keeps happening.

64bit windows 8.1

High settings in BF4, still happens when on medium as well but I get a steady 100fps when on medium otherwise (apart from the fps drop).

GPU temps are around 60-70 Celsius (custom fan curve) and cpu is around 60-65 when in game (custom fan curve as well) so I wouldn't think temperature to be the issue.

All help appreciated, if I have missed something let me know and I will reply when possible.

It sounds as if your graphics card is throttling itself. I'd recommend making sure your graphics card is getting the power it needs and that it's not suffocated from lack of airflow or dust buildup. try installing MSI afterburner or OC guru and turning on the in-game OSD to show your FPS, temperature, and whatever else you may want, then monitor it while gaming. Also, run a benchmark like unigine heaven and see what happens then. Also, save any current overclocking settings as a profile and revert back to stock settings, just to see if that solves the problem. if it does, slowly work your way back up and see if it was just a case of bad OC settings.

I turned of all overclocks on my card and when benchmarking it runs fine as far as I can tell. I have only had this issue in battlefield 4 at the moment as that's what I have been playing recently. Was planning on picking up an ssd but looks like I might need a new gpu instead :L Thanks for the help by the way

If it's only happened in battlefield 4, then battlefield could be the problem. It has been an extremely glitchy game since launch. have you tried reinstalling that? Also, if you live by a Fry's electronics, or any similar tech store, they usually have a 15 day no-questions-asked return policy on computer components. If you have access to such a place, try grabbing a new card and seeing if that fixes the problem. if it doesn't, then you can probably still get yourself that SSD. I hope this helps.

Thanks, never heard of those shops to be honest in the UK and yea could be but as far as I know there wasnt an update when it started happening that's what is confusing me.

It may not be the game itself, but perhaps a driver issue NVIDIA has yet to fix with the 660s.

On further inspection it seemed to be my processor throttling which I have fixed by getting the voltage as low as possible while keeping 4.4GHz stable (managed to get to 3.8 :P). Although my game still feels a little choppy in Battlefield especially even though it sits at 80fps and now and again the gpu power drops to around 60% but it is no where near as bad as before. Considering upgrading my mobo and cpu to Intel Core i5 4670K.
