Ok. So this guy installing my new security system restores my router to default settings. No biggie, just change the SSID and password and i'm golden but ever since that day my family cannot connect to the internet using their wireless devices. I am the only one in the house using the internet because i'm the only one using a wired connection. My router is a WNDR3400v2 Netgear and i've had it for about 3 years with no problems. Then the day after it resets I try connecting with my phone.. Gives me the error "Could not join/connect to network". So I start looking around my wireless advanced tab and see that my Wireless router Radio box is unchecked, so i flip it back on. Internet works fine for an hour or two then it stops. I go back downstairs and go to the router page on my wired pc and see that it has unchecked itself. Odd. So i recheck it and it still says unable to connect. Sometimes it connects but as soon as I try to load a page on my laptop/phone it just turns off or go into LTE. It seems only to affect my wireless devices. Yesterday the internet worked fine completely until I woke up and tried to use my phone, Could not join the network. I have tried power cycling at least 10 times and I have done factory resets a couple of times which solves it for a short amount of time. I have no idea what to do and i'm thinking of buying a new router if it has to be that way. If anyone can help that would be fantastic.

Rest the router to factory defaults then set it up again.

I reset the router to factory settings for the third time half an hour ago.

Try installing an older revision of the firmware.

Ok i'll try that.

EDIT: No luck. Thinking of completely lighting my router on fire.

That's super odd. Definitely try an older firmware if the current one + factory reset is not fixing the issue. As well, you could try running a different firmware, like DD-WRT, Open-WRT, or Tomato, if your router supports it. I suggest never running stock if you can avoid it, the non-stock firmwares just give so many more options, and better ones.

Weirdly enough, there could also be a lot of interference triggering something in the firmware to turn off the AP, so try turning on the 5GHz band, and see if that helps.

Lastly, please for the love of god, turn off WPS. As a CCNA Route and Switch certified person, I cannot express the issues that it can cause, and the security problems WPS creates.

@SlayerOfHellWyrm I tried using 5ghz before and came across the same problem and should I turn on AP mode?

AP mode should be on... it stands for Access Point which is what you need for it to be a wireless router, lol.

I flipped this on the first day it stopped working and it flipped itself off.

We bought it ourselves. It's kinda odd how after 3 years of no problems it's acting up now.

If it was ISP supplied, this would all make more sense, but alas. I'd just go with trying DD-WRT, should alleviate all your problems.

On a side note i'm also getting high pings in games. One second it's 20 the other it's 300. I get an A on ping tests however. :P
