Exactly what the title says, the phone's stuck in a bootloop. I didnt try to flash a new rom or even have root privileges installed, I just went to turn it on today and now it loops. The verizon dude shipped me a new one for free when i went in (since i didnt purposely brick it) but data recovery is still an issue. Mainly worried about my 300 pictures; contacts, music, and videos are all backed up. The verizon guy was able to turn it off by holding power, vol up, and vol down all at the same time but that isnt working anymore (and you cant pull the battery on the One). Cant enter bootloader either and windows doesnt detect it at all since it never fully turns on - just throws up the htc splash screen for about 4-5 seconds and reboots. Is there any way i can at least stop it from turning on and off again so i can try booting into the bootloader from a clean "off" position? I guess i could let the battery eventually die but that probably wont fix anything. Again, not at all worried about the phone itself, but the data is pretty important and personal

I don't think you're going to be able to recover data. I believe if you hold Power + Up it will simulate a battery pull. It does on my M8, anyway. When the phone is off after the battery pull, hold Power + Down to get into fastboot. I can't think of anything else, this would require rooting your phone, and would only work if you have USB debugging enabled and fast boot disabled in the Developer options and power options respectively:

1. Install TWRP using fastboot

2. Enter fastboot then enter recovery

3. Do a wipe, while keeping the cache, dalvik cache, system and data.

4. Download the latest standalone version of InsertCoin (3.0.6) from their website and flash it in recovery. Transfer the file using a MicroSD card

The phone should boot up running InsertCoin with a scrambled kernel. Re-install your apps and you'll be good to go.

Keep in mind, if you just do a wipe from fastboot or from recovery, there won't be any OS to boot to, therefore you can't boot. That's why you flash InsertCoin. If you can find a HTC Sense ROM you can do so also.

If you don't have USB debugging enabled, and fastboot is enabled in power settings, you probably won't be able to enter fastboot, but you might. If you don't have USB debugging enabled, your phone won't take ADB or fastboot commands from your computer, so then you're screwed in that department.

I was able to turn it off somehow by button mashing (after countless combinations/holds didnt work) and was still unable to get into fastboot. If no one has anymore suggestions then I'm probably just going to let it sit while off for an hour or so and try booting again. Oh, and USB debugging was on and fastboot was off

Then, if you find a way into fastboot my method theoretically will get you up and running. After simulating the battery pull, the moment the screen goes black, switch to the volume down from volume up. If you can get into fastboot, you can install TWRP and flash your phone back to health.

So you can get into the recovery? Do a system restore.

things ive figure out how to do:

turn off the phone by holding power and vol up

if i boot with it plugged into the computer the boot screen looks different (red charging light comes on (which hadn't at all before) and display is dimmer which was where i set it)

^^still goes into bootloop^^

if i try to boot into fastboot now, the phone boots, throws up the splash screen, and crashes but stays dead. only loops if i start it normally

"should" and "does" are two different things. The ROM got seriously messed up and I'm still not sure how; therefore making the usual usual shortcuts simply not work anymore.

New plan is to let the battery die and completely drain all the capacitors for 24 hours and see what happens then

Hmmm, well the recovery should be independent of the ROM, kind of like the bios and the OS. I've had plenty of bootloops on my M7, but all of them were fixed via the recovery. If you can't get in there your device might be bricked or something :S
