High battery drain from WiFi

thebennyboy

I have a Sony Xperia Z and have it rooted. I have had it rooted from several months but recently my battery has been going down a fair bit quicker than it used to. I installed betterbatterystats and install greenify which apparently "hibernated" WhatsApp but kept it's push notifications running as it uses Google Cloud Messaging apparently which meant that it could still push notifications with no overhead. So WhatsApp is using a lot of time on the WiFi causing the phone to drain qicker than it used to, uninstalling it isn't an option as lots of my relatives use it. Is there anything i can do to try and lower the WiFi usage from whatsapp? Here are some screenshots:
