Hey guys, I've got an S4 and I've had no issues with it until the latest update (about 2 weeks ago) and since, I've had hundreds of app crashes and random restarts which are a nightmare. I've been to my provider and they've said that they can't do anything about it. Would I be able to downgrade my phone to the previous update that was fine? If so, where would I find it?

Have you tried wiping the Dalvik cache? And removing the battery?

Why won't they do anything.Give it for warranty.

Well maybe the person in the store was just being unhelpful, but since the phone is in a mostly working state, she probably can't do anything about it.

How would I go about that, would it fix the issues with the phone? Removing the battery? Is that an extra part of clearing the cache or are you suggesting that something so simple will fix it. Because, it hasn't.

Also, that wouldn't fix the problem that the update has changed things that shouldn't have been changed.

Samsungs have a 24 Month Warranty period on the actual device itself. If I was you I'd call the manufacturer as network providers can take 2-4 weeks to get your phone repaired. You can go into a store and send it off for repair, some don't like doing it as its effort (In which I want to have some people in the stores sacked as they don't do their jobs properly).

Haha. That's cool to know. I'll have to get in contact with Samsung then.

The only problem with going into a store is that I actually live on an island where there are no phone shops and I have to come across to the mainland UK to go to said stores. Fortunately, I'm away for two weeks at the moment (going home in a couple of days) and so I've had the chance to go to one of my provider's stores.

Removing the battery thing helped me fix some problems when I updated my Galaxy Note 3 from 4.3 to 4.2.2. I can't tell you why it worked, it just did.

Clearing the Dalvik cache is accomplished by going into recovery mode and selecting wipe cache. Clearing it may fix issues that occur after an OTA update. If you don't want to bothe, I suggest you just take it to a store.

This link tells you how to get into S4's recovery mode: http://www.android.gs/how-to-enter-samsung-galaxy-s4-recovery-mode/

  • 1 month later...

Update: I got so fed up of the constant issues that I gave up and sent it to Samsung for repair. Their service was remarkably quick but they said that they'd fixed everything but haven't. Same issues still arising, just not as commonly. There was another update in the last couple of days and they installed that but it hasn't fixed it.

Now, for the days that I was going to have no phone,  I was going to go back to my previous phone (Galaxy S2) that I had running Cyanogen Mod. I wasn't a fan of it on that phone and so I never really used it much (it was after I got this phone and really just as a test) and so I looked around to unroot the S2 and put it back to stock firmware. I succeeded and had no issues for the few days I used it. While looking for S2 firmwares, I stumbled upon a website with S4 firmwares too. Would it be easy enough to downgrade the firmware on this phone (S4) to one where everything worked?

Now, I'll probably get a lot of hate for this, but I actually like Touchwiz. I find it way more intuitive and nicer and easier to use than other vendors' versions of the OS including stock. Yeah, I real;y hate all the bloatware that both Samsung AND Vodafone put on it, but the UI is so much better (in my opinion).

So, that being said, I wouldn't be against the idea of getting CyanogenMod on here - but only if putting the older stock firmware on it won't work.

What do you guys know?
