So I was talking with my mom who is using a 10 year old desk top pc and she was telling me that she wanted a new computer at 300$. So this doesn't need to be a powerhouse like all of us on here want. It just needs to be something running windows 7 because she would go insane with windows 8 and be new no refurbs. All she does is go on facebook and play the card games the pc comes with( does windows 7 still have that?).  Suggestions would be awesome.

PC Specs: CPU: Intel i7 4770K / CPU COOLER: Corsair H100i / Storage: Samsung 840 EVO 120Gig and Seagate Barracuda 1Tb / Motherboard: MSI Z97 Gaming-7 / GPU: EVGA GTX 780 SC ACX / Power Supply: SeaSonic M12II 850watt / Case: Corsair 750D 680 Coaster

If she is only using the Internet and playing card games, might a chromebook be a good option?

I brought it up to her and she is oddly set on getting a desktop.

I agree. I have a chromebook as a secondary computer to haul around campus and it is fast, convenient, and gets the job done.

Like I said oddly set on getting a desktop.

Also, why get a prebuilt? At that budget you should expect to get something like this:

Skip to 14:00 for the good part

To be honest it really doesnt matter if its something like that... The current pc she has has 512 megabytes of ram and a cpu clocked at 1.5ghz single core. Be a hardware snob all you want that doesnt change the fact that anything at this point is an upgrade.

At this price, you could probably build a better computer than a prebuilt one (after seeing CareyHolzman's video, I was horrified at the mere existence of that $330 PC).  The AMD sempron 145 is a good low end processor for $30 ($20 picked up from microcenter).

i5 4670k (can OC to 4.4Ghz) - Hyper 212 evo w/ AC MX2 - XFX Radeon R9 280X8GB ADATA XPG V2 DDR3-1600 - MSI Z87 G41 - Corsair CX600M 600W PSU - 1TB HDD - 120GB SSD

If you were willing to build a PC, I made a possible parts list.

Ideally, you could reuse the disc drive on the old computer to avoid purchasing a new one.  Also note that unless you live close enough to a MicroCenter to pick up the CPU for $20, the price would be $30 on Newegg.  I'm sure this could perform better than any pre-built $300 PCs.

What about something without windows and disc drive I already have both. Perhaps could maybe fit an intel cpu into a itx form factor then?
