DisplayPort Cables

Hey all, I have some left over display port cables from some dell monitors from work and was wondering if displayport cables are all the same or they are rated for the different versions of displayport and if so how to tell what version cable it is?

If the writing on the cord doesn't specify what version it is then you probably won't find out unless you have a monitor that can physically test the cables.

I don't think it matters whether it's 1.1 or 1.2 if you're using a 1080p or 1440p display.

1.2 came out in september of 2013 I think, so if the cables are older than that then it's not 1.2

A DisplayPort cable is just a DisplayPort cable, they all support the current version of it.

There are RBR cables which have lower bit-rate, but that's about it; I personally doubt dell would have you an RBR DP cable if they gave you one at all.

A DisplayPort cable is a DisplayPort cable; EXCEPT if it a “reduced bit rate” (or RBR) cable

a cable that was tested to meet the DP 1.1a requirments also meets the DP 1.2 requirements.
