Hello

I am a bit confused if the new Devil's Canyon Intel i7 4790k would work on a Z87 motherboard, in my case the ASUS Maximus VI Impact

Websites such as PC Part Picker suggest a bios update and Amazon saying the CPUS are not compatible with Z87 boards.

Thanks

It will work with an updated BIOS. Make sure you do that before installing the CPU.

Build: CPU: Intel Core i5 4690k | CPU Cooler: Hyper 212 Evo | Motherboard: MSI Z97 Gaming 5 | RAM: 8GB G-Skill Ares 1600Mhz CL9 | Storage: 120GB Samsung 840 Evo + WD Blue 1TB 64MB Cache + Seagate Barracuda 2TB 64MB Cache | GPU: MSI GTX 960 | Case: Cooler Master Storm Enforcer | Power Supply: EVGA 600B Non-Modular |

Hi

This is going to be my first build, how do I do that?

Thanks

I think it was something like the new devils canyon was 185 TDP, and boards spec is actually 180 tdp. But its rare to build only to spec, and no headroom, and with a high end board, you should be more then fine. Its some cheap 30$ boards that barely work to begin with, those might not work.

Download the bios updater and the latest bios (v.1505) and you should be set.

Thanks, so should I download this to a USB and put it into the motherboard with the CPU inside?

I flashed mine via EZ Flash when the system was off, however you may need to do it differently since it says to use the utility.
