GTX680 4GB or 7970 6GB?

Dango

7970 seems like the better option for a few reasons.

More ram for higher resolution, your probably going 5000 by 1080 or whatever the 3 monitor equivalent of 1920*1080 is, i believe its 5760*1080

Eyefinity is more mature, so your less likely to see issues with gaming.

The big thing is what outputs your going to have, i use direct cu II products from asus so i have 2 dvi connections and 4 display port connections, meaning i have to go

dvi and 1 display port

or

2 display ports and 1 dvi port

Neither. AMD 8000 series and NVidia 700 all come out soon - just wait until they're released

I agree with wind, AMD has already announced their 8000 desktop GPU line and they will be releasing soon. Just wait for them, but if I know Nvidia they have a little something saved up for the 700 series that AMD is unlikely to match.

Until 6 months down the road AMD release new drivers that boost performance by 10% and then everything changes..

Agree with Wind, wait for the 8000 series if you can.

Currently the 7970 is better than the 680 and I've read as well that the 680 is gimped by its 256bit memory bus width that renders the 4GB RAM almost useless.

Don't wait, just grab a 7970 6GB. The 8000 Series are just rebranded 7000 Series cards. There is still power waiting to be unlocked in the GCN cards as AMD is still working on them.

7970 3gb x2 / 7950 3gb x 2

6gb is for noobs, 7950 crossfire > 680 sli @ 3x1080p

VRAM Does not add up when you run cards in SLI or Crossfire.

3 monitors at 1080p could be alot for a single GPU depending on what games you're planning on playing. I'd consider a dual card setup if you can afford it.

The more memory the better for multi monitor setups, and AMD's Eyefinity is easy to set up and pretty stable. I'd go with the 7970.

You should probably wait for the 8k series to come out though, because the price of the 7k series will probably drop when that happens. Or you could buy the top end 8000 card if you really wanted to have the bleeding edge.

Maybe my typing is bad or you guys can't comprehend it well, idk, but I haven't said vram doubles in crossfire or SLI. I said 6gb cards were for 'noobs' because they are pointless.

As for 'issues with crossfire' there's issues with SLI too.

the 6GB toxic is from sapphire. but anyway, for multimonitor setup, i think eyefinity is the better solution. so i would go with an amd-card. if you use alle the monitors at 1080p, maybe the 3GB cards could be enough, but for higher resolutions like 1440p, take the 6GB version.

7970- more ram an your running a higher res anyway, the 7970 imo would destroy the gtx 680
