So i have the logitech quickcam s5500, and it just picks up everything. it hears/records my breathing across the room. Ive tried turning down the "levels" both in the recording devices in the windows settings and in the supplied, and up-to-date drivers/software from logitech. it is way too sensitive. it sounds like i live in a wind tunnel. i cant hear my computer. but my mic can. and it thinks its a jumbo jet landing.. does anyone know of a free software for turning down the sensitivity on usb mics? and maybe know some solutions? greatly appreciated.

If it's really that good then just seal the microphone with glue ;) It won't destroy the microphone and if it is that sensitive maybe that will let it only take up a decent amount of sound...

I am by no means a audio phial but i have a few idea's. before doing something permanent like glue use something like scotch tape or electrical tape over the mike. you say you computer isn't loud so i think the sound vibrations may be traveling up the usb cable. try cutting some rubber bands in to little strings and tie them around the usb cable. The little rubber whiskers may dampen the sound vibrations. last just try playing around in the Logitech software. windows sound affects the sound that enters the computer but not always what the mike records. there is probable a place in the Logitech software that changes the mike sensitivity on the hardware device itself.

I will do the best I can to help in any way. However I am not all knowing and realize that I can be wrong. If you know something I said is not factual please speak up and provide myself and otters reading reading the thread with the facts proving it.
