Nothing works for me - Linux Mint

Trying to install Linux Mint on my 64 GB USB, and I run in to a fun problem.

 

Mint has been put on to my smaller USB but it's got this problem where it resets every startup. Does have an option to Install Mint though.

So I take out the hard drive on this laptop because I can't afford to screw up Windows or delete things off of it, precautionary things.

But when I boot the computer without the HDD it says there's no boot device, so I can't even go into the USB with Linux on there to install it permanently on my other USB.

 

Am I doing something wrong or is there something I'm supposed to be doing that I'm missing?

Did you set the persistence when you installed on the USB?

 

Also, if you use a USB installing software you have no need to worry over your Windows install. It will ask you where to install to with a drop down list indicating your USB desperate from your hard drive. And then again when you boot into Linux to install.

I used this to put it on my smaller USB originally. I know it has a window to specify where to install it but I want to leave no chances to screw something up.

If you use the software and make sure you select the right drive/device, it will not mess up but I can understand. ^_^

 

However, to fix your USB install you are going to need to be in another OS. If you can find one or if you end up using Windows, you can either make it a Persistent Linux USB (will remember document, bookmarks, wallpaper etc etc) or a fully operational Linux install. As for software, I much prefer to use "Linux Live USB Creator". It is easier to use and works great.

 

There is also the standard way of installing it. When you get to the install screen, hit "Something else" and install the bootloader onto the USB. A more detailed guide can be found here:
