770, 280X or 290

Go to solution Solved by TERAFLOP,

290 is future proof? I mean to max out games in 2015. Because I've been told next gen GPU's will be a huge leap.

If any of those GPUs is going to handle next gen games well it's the 290.

And that's because of several reasons, first of all it's way faster than a 280x and a 770 ~30-40$ faster, secondly it has twice the amount of memory as a 770 and 33% more memory than a 280X so in next-gen games and even current ones like Watchdogs where the 770 will completely choke the 290 will blaze through without any issue.

The third reason is Mantle. The next Mass Effect game will support Mantle, Dragon Age Inquisition will support Mantle & all of EA's Frostbite powered games will support mantle, all of Crytek's upcoming games will support mantle, the majority of upcoming strategy games will also support mantle.

So the 290 is definitely the most future proof of all three.

Hello guys. I'm planning to upgrade my video card and your assistance is required. Right now I have HIS 7850 2GB. It's ok, runs well games, but I'm looking to max out GTA 5, Far Cry 4, Alien, DOOM 4 beta and other interesting projects coming in autumn-2015. So I need a powerful card for 2015 projects. I was looking for GTX 770, Radeon 280X or 290. I need your help to choose what fits me. My resolution is 1980 x 1200. CPU i5 3470. Radeon 290 seems to be the most powerful. But it's more expensive, and in some tests I've seen it's on the same level with 770 or the difference is not big. What do you think? Thanks for your time and suggestions.

290 is far better than a 770, and i would even say a 280x is also slightly better.

If you can afford it the 290 but if not, 280x
