I upgraded to windows 8 about 6 months ago and have had no problems until now. I restarted my computer to do an update and now I am stuck in an automatic repair cycle. I get this coming up each time as the error:

log file: D:\WINDOWS\System32\Logfiles\Srt\SrtTrail.txt

I have tried all of the options that they offer you apart from wiping the hard drive and reinstalling everything as I am not too keen on doing that. Anyone have any ideas how to sort this out.

My rig: i5 2500k, MSI Z77A G45, Gainward GTX 980 Phantom, 8GB Corsair Vengeance, OCZ ZT series 750W PSU, 1TB HDD, 800D, fully water cooled. I am currently working on modding my HAF 912+ to fit a custom loop, here is the build log: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/165963-project-viridis-water-cooled-haf-912/

Do you have a system repair disc? Or any way you can get into the system repair options to do a system restore?

Use the windows disc and boot into that CD. Then, find the repair option and get it to repair your system. Usually, the disc works better than the OS. I also liked using the Windows 7 Disc. Although I am not sure that will work with Windows 8. Good luck, hope it gets fixed!

What happened when you tried?

Might just have to reinstall Windows. Are all your important files on the same drive and same partition? And do you have backups of your important files?

Well, important files would be any personal file important to you - like the music you mentioned. Do you have your files backed up? And what are you using currently to post to the forum? A smartphone or another full computer?

Okay. Well, it looks like you're gonna have to resort to reinstalling Windows.

Nope. They're incompatible.
