Hello tech experts,

I need some help: I'm building my custom pc but it's my first time and I'm not sure if all the parts are compatible/necessary?

Here are the specs:

Case = Corsair Vengeance C70 Mid-Tower Gaming Case — Military Green

CPU = Intel 4930K

Motherboard = ASUS X79 Deluxe (is it better this one or the ASUS Rampage IV?)

Ram = G.Skill Ripjaws Z Series 16GB (4x4) DDR3 2400

GPU = EVGA GeForce GTX 780 Hydro Copper

SSD = Vector 450 256GB

HHD = I don't really know wich one WD Black or Blue? I need only about 1/2 TB of space

PSU = Cooler Master V850 850W Fully-Modular

Watercooling specs:

Waterblock = XSCP RayStorm CPU WaterBlock (Intel)

Rad = EK-CoolStream PE 240 (mounted on the top)

Pump and Res combo = XSPC D5 Dual Bay Reservoir/Pump Combo V2

Coolant = Mayhems Pastel Sunset Yellow 1Ltr

Tubing = PrimoFlex Advanced LRT Tuubing

I heard that there are few incompatibility issues with PrimoFlex tubes and Mayhems liquid is it true?

Fittings = XSPC G1/4″ to 3/8″ ID, 5/8″ OD Compression Fitting (Black Chrome) V2

Is this system Overkill or is it just fine?

Thanks  :D

Best regards

-Theo

i would personally get a normal GTX 780 and buy a aftermarket waterblock

the hydro is way overpriced

if this is for gaming almost everything is overkill except the 780

I know that the HC series is overpriced but I dont wanna tinker to much with my first build

Why is it so overkill in your opinion? :huh:

The main use would be gaming but i'll use it as a "resarch" pc too

Well... it's overkill :P especially if you only use it for gaming. You can even downgrade to the i5 4690k, but if you dont want to then i7 4790k, For mobo get smt like MSI Z97 G45 Gaming mobo as it's cheap but good and have all the function you will ever needed for gaming, for Ram, if you want to go with 16GB get 2x8GB Ram, not 4x4GB,

If you plan to do a full watercooler build anyway, just get a stock cooler 780 and get a waterblock for it. Also the 6GB version of the 780 is already out so you may want that if you go for >=1440p

for HDD go with either is fine, your PSU is overkill, for 1 single GPU system even with watercooler stuff like pumps, you wont need 850W, around 600-700W should already be ok, you may get the 850W if you plan to do SLI though.

And sorry I dont know much about water cooling stuff, so I cant judge those thing :P

My rig: Intel Core i7 4790k | MSI Z97 PC Mate | GSKILL Ripjaws X 16GB 1866MHz | ADATA Premier SP550 480GB SSD | Seagate Barracuda 3TB | Seagate Barracuda 2TB  | MSI Gaming X GTX 1070 | Thermaltake Versa N21 | Corsair CX550M Semi Modular PSU | AOC G2460PF 144Hz | Logitech G502 | GSKILL Ripjaws KM780  | GAMDIAS HEPHAESTUS V2  PCPartPicker | Old Build Log | New Build Log

Im going with a military type pc so i think that thr i7 4790K with a ASUS TUF would be perfect and for the psu, yes im going to upgrade to a Dual gtx 780.

And by the way why is it better 2x8 ram than 4x4?

Mmm... there's the stuff about memory controller and stuff but I'm not totally sure, but 1 thing is that you can easily upgrade to >16GB later on if you go with 2x8 instead of 4x4~ Not that I think you will ever use it :P

no game uses the extra cores / threads a 4930K has

16 gigs is fine, but id go with 2 * 8 gigs sticks at something like 1600 /1866,

you will see very little performance increase with 2400 mhz ram

dont go with a bay and res combo, and dual D5 is also overkill, those pumps are monsters, only people who really need them uses 8 blocks.

go with a normal D5 with a res top and a mod kit to make it look beter

with all that money saved, buy a second 780 already, and get a AX 860 (i)

about that coolant, it stains every soft tubing, so i wouldnt worry about that to much, you cant reuse soft tubing anyways.

hope this covers everything

Ok thanks for the useful tips but it is not a dual D5 pump it's a single one with dual bay res and im sorry because i didn't specified before but i play cpu intensive games such as heavily modded minecraft so i think more cores and a high performance cpu is better

Ciao Theo, Welcome to the forums!

Your rig is a little overkill, I'd do what the other people said (but I can't tell you about the watercooling since I never used it and don't know about custom loops).

You could also get a r9 290x if you are going with high resolutions ( >=1440p ).

Se ti serve aiuto contattami pure (if you need help contact me whenever you want) ;)

You don't need all that stuff only to play Minecraft. For Minecraft you can go for an i5 with  a r9 270x, 280x, GTX 770, 760.

No, absolutely no. Im playing all sort of games and this summer im gonna edit some Photos/videos, and it wont be the last time, so I want a pretty beefy pc.

Oh, ok. If it was for Minecraft, then you were sick in the head  :P. Well good luck with your new rig. If you need help you can private message me  :D. (Remember to use the quote button)
